Meanwhile, Carter must endure a long trip to the bus station with Abby's inquisitive mother, Maggie (recurring guest star Sally Field). He also ponders a major life-changing decision. And troubled Kovac ruminates on his tragic life when he is forced to consult a psychologist.

John Drake's efforts to retrieve confidential papers stolen from a friend lead him into acute danger in Rome. An agitated appeal for, help comes to John Drake (PATRICK MeGOOTIAN? when, visiting Rome, he is told by hie British Embassy friend Gordon Simmons Isimoti LACK/ that his case containing classified secret papers has been stolen. They were taken from bin car while he was meeting a girl, Paula (HANJA KOCHANSKY), in a cafe, and he suspects that the thief was a lottery salesman whom he is able to describe. On the surface, it appears that thin is petty larceny, not espionage - but Drake soon discovers that there is more to it than this. His inquiries indicate that the lottery salesman was probably a man named Tamasio (AUBREY MORRIS), who lives in the Trastavere district. A search leads to Tarnaeio's apartment - unsavoury quarters, stacked with junk. Tamasio is immediately on the defensive, but Drake forces him to admit that he has sold the case, with its contents, to a man named Eddie
