Ryan's flyin' when Ryan Phillippe makes his Saturday Night Live hosting debut. The actor already has an SNL connection: He stars in the film MacGruber with prime-time players Will Forte and Kristen Wiig. The movie, which is slated to hit theaters on May 21, is based on Forte's riotous SNL sketch about a mullet-coiffed, MacGyveresque action character who always meets his demise thanks to a bomb explosion. As for tonight's big bangs, expect the usual headline-blasting skits and a burst of music when dance-pop songstress Ke$ha hits the stage.

Author Patricia Cornwell has OK'd a deal with Lifetime to adapt two of her crime novels into movies.At Risk was first published in 2006 while its sequel The Front hits bookshelves next month. They are the first novels by Cornwell to be produced for TV or the big screen. J.R. Whalen

Crime author Patricia Cornwell is donating at least $500,000 to help researchers solve the mystery of the sinking of the Confederate submarine Hunley. If only she invested as much in the ending of Trace. Grrrr.
