Enlisted

This is sadder than Toy Story 3.

After Yahoo swooped in and brought Community back from the dead, fans of Fox's Enlisted hoped the online service would do the same for their fallen soldier, which was canceled in May after just one season.

Enlisted Executive Producer Mike Royce on Surviving the Sting of Cancellation

Parker Young, Geoff Stults

May can be the harshest month for TV fans, as the networks make their annual series orders and renewals for fall. One show that didn't make the cut: Fox's Enlisted. Fox chief operating officer Joe Earley admits to TV Guide Magazine that the network didn't do Enlisted any favors. The show was originally announced for fall 2013, but later shifted to January, launching in a tough Friday night timeslot.

"With Enlisted, we feel really badly, it never got a fair chance, because of scheduling moves that happened around it," Earley says. He confirms that... read more

Wednesday TV: Psych Finale, Family Goes to Vegas, Live TV on TV Land

James Roday, Dule Hill

As USA Network's Psych hangs up its pineapple after eight seasons of tomfoolery — or should it be called Shawn-foolery? — mystery takes even more of a back seat to comedy than usual in the series finale (Wednesday, 9/8c), ominously titled "The Breakup." While there is a murder to be solved (frequently referred to as "our last case"), it's a perfunctory distraction at best to Shawn's main concern: how to tell Gus that their bromantic partnership may in fact be over. read more

Suburgatory Team Talks About "Leaner" Cast, and the Shays' New Addition

Suburgatory

Suburgatory returned this past Wednesday after a 10-month hiatus and down two cast members — three if you count fan-favorite recurring guest Parker Young — but creator Emily Kapnek insists that fans shouldn't be worried about the future of Chatswin.

"From a scheduling standpoint, there was a little bit of shuffling that goes on, but I will say that [ABC President Paul Lee] has been incredibly supportive of our show," she told reporters Friday at the Television Critics Association winter TV previews. "I know that some of the scheduling stuff was hard and they're in the midst of trying to figure out what works where and we're very happy to be .... read more

Weekend Review: Helix, Enlisted, True Detective

Billy Campbell, Hiroyuki Sanada

Made you jump. It's about time a Syfy show had that effect on us again.

Syfy's Helix (Friday, 10/9c) is a chiller in every sense of the word, a welcome return to gripping sci-fi form for a network that has lately ceded bragging rights to AMC (The Walking Dead), FX (American Horror Story) and even The CW (The Vampire Diaries) in the competitive arena of hardcore genre buzz. The spirit of Michael Crichton permeates this claustrophobic exercise in suspenseful paranoia, from Battlestar Galactica's Ronald D. Moore and series creator Cameron Porsandeh, who sets the first season almost entirely at an icy Arctic research compound that's actually a hothouse for mysteriously grisly medical experiments.

Enlisted Offers a New Spin on the Workplace Comedy: "Our Dunder Mifflin Is the U.S. Military"

Geoff Stults, Parker Young, Chris Lowell

Boy enrolls in the army. Boy goes overseas to fight the bad guys in Afghanistan. Boy returns home safely to his two younger brothers. Sounds like a happy ending, right? Not quite.

On the new military comedy Enlisted, premiering Friday at 9:30/8:30c on Fox, Geoff Stults plays Staff Sergeant Pete Hill, an ambitious super soldier who is sent back home to Fort McGee, Fla., and reassigned to the far less impressive Rear Detachment unit after his temper gets the best of him in the war zone.

"He's definitely struggling with it," Stults tells TVGuide.com. "He's going to try to make the best of it, but he feels bad that he's not overseas with his brothers, his other brothers, fighting. He feels like that's the only way that he can give back to his country. He has to learn to find different ways to feel like... read more
