Former sports idol and sometime-actor O.J. Simpson on Friday was convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery and 10 other charges stemming from the Sept. 13, 2007, robbery of two sports-memorabilia dealers, at gunpoint, in a Las Vegas hotel room.The verdict, handed down after 13-plus hours of jury deliberation, came 13 years to the day that Simpson, now 61, was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.Simpson's co-defendant, Clarence "C.J." Stewart, also was found guilty on all charges. Judge Jackie Glass denied all motions for the defendants to be released on bail. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 5.Simpson is said to have recruited five men to breach a Vegas hotel room and steal several pieces of sports memorabilia. Speaking to TV's Extra, Donald Trump confirms that the disgraced football vet once was mentioned as a contender for next season — and the Peacock was less than receptive. Call it the most imperfect storm. As the WGA strike enters Day 10, a Las Vegas judge has ruled that O.J. "If I Did It" Simpson must stand trial on kidnapping and robbery charges stemming from his September invasion of a Sin City hotel room to seize mementos from his sports career. "This is what we expected," Simpson said after the ruling came down. "If I have any disappointment, it's that I wish a jury was here. If the sports memorabilia that the ex-football star is accused of taking at gunpoint turns out to be his, the family of the late Ron Goldman aims to claim it themselves as part of their multimillion-dollar settlement against Ron's alleged killer. Simpson's arraignment is scheduled for tomorrow, at which point his lawyer has said he will request that his client be released on his own recognizance. Dang, I love saying "released on his own recognizance." Makes me feel all soap-opera judge-y.
