Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie no longer leads a simple life — and that's just fine with her. In January, the former reality star entered the hectic world of motherhood when she and her boyfriend, Good Charlotte lead singer Joel Madden, welcomed a baby girl, Harlow. (Despite tabloid headlines to the contrary, Richie says she and Madden are together.) On the professional front, the 27-year-old Richie is attempting a bit of a career reinvention, designing a line of jewelry, reportedly working on an album and even returning to TV. On Oct. 20, she guest stars on NBC's espionage comedy Chuck (8 pm/ET) as a former high-school nemesis of Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski). We asked Richie about the surprisingly physical role. — Mary Murphy
TV Guide: How did you get the role on Chuck?
Nicole Richie: I auditioned like every body else. I knew it was a really fun part and it seemed like a challenge. I get a lot of scripts to play blonde, bubbly cheerleader types. She was different than that. She has a dark side.

Nicole Richie by Dana Edelson/NBC Photo
New mom Nicole Richie isn't just all about walks in the park with baby Harlow, or sashaying down red carpets or even shopping. In fact, The Simple Life alumna's making a return to TV as a guest on Chuck this fall. Richie's guest role will be that of a snarky, mean girl who was cruel to Yvonne Strahovski's character, Sarah Walker, in high school. Walker has to face her former torturer for a mission at her 10-year high school reunion, with Chuck as her date.Exec producer Josh Schwartz sang the praises of Richie, and made sure we knew she had to try out and everything: "Nicole auditioned for the part and was very funny. This role is a great opportunity for her to show off her comedic skills and...kick some butt." Comedic skills? Kicking butt? Could this be a Nicole we've never really seen before or expert directing? Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie presenting at the 2003 Billboard Music Awards
In what comes as a shock to many industry insiders, the Supreme Court has decided to hear the FCC's 2006 indecency suit against Fox, in what will be the Court's first such case in 30 years, Variety says. The FCC's gripe stems from a citation it made for "fleeting expletives" uttered by Nicole Richie and Cher in separate Billboard Music Awards shows in 2002 and 2003. Fox shot back at the FCC, calling its actions "arbitrary and capricious." Fox also asserted that the "FCC's expanded enforcement of the indecency law is unconstitutional in today's diverse media marketplace where parents have access to a variety of tools to monitor their children's television viewing."Given that the last ruling the Supreme Court made on so-called "indecency" cases was in 1978 and technology, media (and perhaps even culture) have changed do you think it's time for a dusting-off of policy? Or is it a good thing that this issue is being brought to the Supreme table? Anna DimondUse our On...
