Oprah and Friends Front New Oscars Special

ABC has inked a deal for Oprah Winfrey to host her own pre-Oscars interview special, Variety reports. Whereas Barbara Walters does the Q&Aing herself on her own annual chitchats, Oprah has recruited Academy Award winners Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and Jamie Foxx to each interview an Oscar winner they admire. Ergo, the Pretty Woman will gab with BFF George Clooney, Kidman will kibbitz with fellow Aussie Russell Crowe, and Foxx will sit down with Sidney Poitier. This special — which surely will feature "Oprah Winfrey Presents" somewhere in its title — will air Feb. 22 at 10 pm/ET, three days before this year's Oscars. read more

Poll: Britney/K-Fed Was the Year's Juiciest Jilting

You like to see slackers get their comeuppance, dontcha? The results of Parade.com's year-end Pop Culture Poll are out, and Britney's booting of Mr. Federline (earning 22 percent of the vote) was deemed the most deliciously rocky celeb romance of 2006. Other findings: — Y'all would rather smooch your real-life honeys than, say, Angelina Jolie (14 percent) or George Clooney (19 percent) on New Year's Eve. Um, OK....— Thirty-eight percent of the 15,013 respondents pick Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban as the next celeb union to go south. (How many times did that Nashville lingerie model vote?)— Jennifer Aniston boasts the closet most women want to raid. (And frankly, she may welcome the company.)— Matthew McConaughey and Jessica Alba, meanwhile, are those you imagine look best unclothed, topping their respective gender's lists with 48 and 24 percent of the hottest-bod votes. Good to see that folks have been renting Into the Blue. For more categories and results, go to... read more

Kidman Tops Priciest Actre$$ List, as Julia Snoozes

The Hollywood Reporter's fifth-annual accounting of the biz's best-paid actresses names Nicole Kidman this year's biggest breadwinner, earning as much as $17 million per film. This marks the first time that Julia Roberts, MIA from the live-action circuit this year, didn’t top the list. Rounding out the top 10 were Reese Witherspoon, Renée Zellweger, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz (at $15 million each), Halle Berry ($14 mil), Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie ($10 mil), Kirsten Dunst ($8 to 10 mil), and Jennifer Aniston ($8 million).Meanwhile, I'm reading in the Post that Sean Connery turned down hundreds of millions to play Gandalf in the LOTR trilogy. Someone alert NOW. read more

COMING ATTRACTIONS

Good news — Nicole Kidman has picked her next project, and it isn't Bewitched 2! Rather, the Oscar winner will star in and produce what the Hollywood Reporter is calling a female version of The Bourne Identity. Meanwhile, fellow Academy darling Tom Hanks has also selected his next big-screen outing: How Starbucks Saved My Life. In it, the producer-headliner will play an ad man who gets canned and winds up slinging lattes for a living (or, as I like to think of it, the recurring nightmare Matt Webb Mitovich has when I'm subbing as news editor). Gus Van Sant is the front-runner to direct, the Hollywood Reporter says. read more

AT THE MOVIES

Variety reports that Jack Black will join Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Jason Leigh in The Squid and the Whale writer-director Noah Baumbach's as-yet-untitled new film. read more

The 78th Annual Academy Awards...

Jon Stewart

The 78th Annual Academy Awards 8:01: The opening scene just demonstrates why we love Jon Stewart: No one does self-deprecation so funny. Not even George Clooney. I think my dog would look great in a Steve Martin wig. 8:05: At first, the Hollywood royalty aren't laughing quite as hard as I am at Jon's jokes — especially not at the one about the suffering caused by movie piracy. But nothing brings people together like a Bjork joke. (She was trying on her gown and Cheney shot her!) And then the gay Western montage. Not even Stewart knows how to follow up that hilarity, so I'm not even gonna try. Brilliant. 8:16: Nicole Kidman's weird intro for the best-supporting-actor nominees has me thinking right away that Clooney will win. And then he does; self-deprecation keeps working wonders. "So I'm not winning director." The music starts after about 10 sec read more

48th Annual Grammy Awards After...

Kelly Clarkson

48th Annual Grammy AwardsAfter proudly watching my pals Kimberly Caldwell and Rosanna Tavarez on TV Guide Channel's Countdown to the Grammys, followed, of course, by Joan and Melissa Rivers on our Grammy red-carpet show, I made sure my roommate's VCR was taping Idol and my own VCR was set for Lost. All systems go! Time for the Grammys.8:00 pm The animated group Gorillaz open with their hit "Feel Good Inc.," and since I love the song, guess what? It makes me feel good. But I totally picture my mother in Chicago being very confused.8:03 The goddess Madonna enters and I'm loving every minute of it. Can I please look that fabulous when I'm 47? After a brief lip-synched intro, she sings the rest of "Hung Up" live, and her hair looks like Lydia Cornell circa Too Close for Comfort.8:13 Kelly Clarkson s read more

THE PEACEMAKER II: GOODWILL HUNTING

Nicole Kidman has a new role and, thankfully, it's not another big-screen redo of a TV series. Rather, she has been named a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations, specifically working on critical gender concerns such as ending violence against women. Honored to "again" serve the U.N. (as she did in the film The Interpreter), Kidman said at a news conference, "I look forward to a close, long-term relationship." Calm down, Keith, she wasn't outing you two just yet. read more

NO PETTY CASH FOR PRETTY WOMAN

When she makes movies (and not oogly-googly noises for her year-old twins), Julia Roberts is filmdom's highest-paid actress. Per the Hollywood Reporter's annual power list, the Pretty Woman now commands $20 million per film, edging out No. 2 on the list, Nicole Kidman (whose ask is as high as $17 mil). Rounding out the Top 10 are Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore, Renee Zellweger, Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Jodie Foster (back on the list for the first time since 2002), Charlize Theron and Jennifer Aniston, who's a steal at just $9 million a film. read more
