Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, Castle
Nathan Fillion's character on Castle doesn't take many things seriously, something that perhaps has rubbed off on the actor.
When asked what he thinks will lure viewers into the ABC procedural dramedy's second season, the 38-year-old former Firefly and Desperate Housewives star cracks jokes. "This season we decided to go with no hooks, no hooks at all," Fillion tells TVGuide.com. "That's become our mantra: no hooks, let's just coast. One episode, we actually take an episode from the first season and just changed everybody's names and filmed it again."

Any Lost scoop? — Ari
MICKEY: You can add Katey Sagal's name to the list of Lost alums who have jetted off to Hawaii to shoot scenes for the final season. Call me a romantic, but I never believed that Locke's beloved Helen was actually dead; that whole cemetery scene reeked of fakery. Plus, we've all heard the rumors about Season 6 employing an alternate timeline (or, more intriguing, a "do-over" of Oceanic Flight 815), which means that even if Matthew Abaddon was telling the truth, Helen is still just as likely to be alive as, say, Charlie, Boone, Shannon, Eko or Juliet.

Nathan Fillion
It makes sense for Nathan Fillion to play a writer on ABC's Castle (Mondays, 10 pm/ET&PT). The son of retired English teachers, he's co-founded a charity, Kids Need to Read, to provide books for underfunded libraries. And while he's unpretentious about his own reading habits — he lists Robert Parker's Spenser novels among recent favorites — he revels in mystery novelist Rick Castle's occasional arrogance on the show. Best known for playing Captain Malcolm Reynolds in the TV show Firefly and the movie Serenity, and for his role as Joey Buchanan in One Life to Live, Fillion got his start performing improvisational comedy in his hometown of Edmonton, Alberta. Castle, which pairs him with alluring detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic), lets him handle drama and comedy alike. But as he explained to us, he plays them both the same.

Nathan Fillion
Full disclosure: We love Nathan Fillion. We're dying for him to get a vehicle that allows his talent, charm and wit to shine.
Fillion first caught our attention on the short-lived but much-loved Firefly, where he played the dashing and loyal Captain Mal. And even though we loved seeing him on Wisteria Lane as Dr. Mayfair, we were much more excited to hear that he'd have his own show on ABC, called Castle. The previews were cute, kinda like Bones and Moonlighting squished together, and we could tell the show would have a procedural structure but a light and comedic tone. Could this finally be the Fillion vehicle we were hoping for?
Well, we watched the show, and like most pilots, it had some flaws. But, the jury's still out on Castle. So, we turn to you, mighty fans. What did you think of the premise, Fillion and costar Stana Katic's chemistry, and the poker party featuring other famous murder-mystery writers? Do you think Castle has what it takes to stick around past midseason? We're just dying to know.
Weigh in after the jump!

Nathan Fillion has won fans over alternately as Buffy's Caleb, Firefly's dashing Capt. Mal and a hunky Wisteria Lane doctor. Starting Monday, March 9 (at 10 pm/ET), Fillion will appear as Nick Castle, a wise-cracking mystery writer in need of inspiration in ABC's comedic crime drama, Castle.
Fillion and his smoldering costar, Stana Katic, spoke with TVGuide.com just ahead of the show's arrival to dish on their on-screen battle of the wits, what fans will see from Fillion that they haven't seen before, and why they were each drawn to the show.
Plus, will Fillion be teaming up with Joss Whedon again? When the cameras weren't rolling, the actor said he'd sign up for anything the Buffy creator (and current Dollhouse producer) asked him to join.

ABC has cut orders on two midseason drama series, The Castle and The Unusuals.

Meanwhile, ABC's partner studio Sony has asked for the same cutbacks for The Unusuals, which is an NYPD ensemble dramedy starring Joan of Arcadia's Amber Tamblyn, says The Hollywood Reporter.

In an unusual move for the time of year, ABC on Monday ordered to series five pilots, including two police procedurals, a pair of comedies and a remake, Variety reports.Among the greenlit fare, Nathan Fillion will be starring in Castle, which focuses on a novelist who helps solve murder cases. Lost alum Harold Perrineau and Joan of Arcadia's Amber Tamblyn, meanwhile, are among the cast of The Unusuals, a police drama set in an atypical precinct. On the lighter side you have Single with Parents, a sitcom starring Charmed beauty Alyssa Milano, and Better Off Ted, starring Jay Harrington as an office worker trying to make his way up the ranks.ABC has also picked up Cupid, a Rob Thomas-helmed remake of the late-1990s show about a man (played by Bobby Cannavale) who believes he's Cupid and the psychologist (Sarah Paulson) who works with him.Do these series seem like a good direction for the net? With five fresh shows to pick from, the odds are in ABC's favor. Anna DimondRelated:&...

The golden Lasso of Truth won't be needed to confirm the rumors: Keri Russell is indeed the star of the February 2009 animated DVD movie Wonder Woman, the next in a series from Warner Bros. and DC Comics following Tuesday's release of Batman: Gotham Knight. (Check out the full poster here.)The Felicity star voices Princess Diana, the Amazon-turned-superhero. "This story is funny and action-packed and adult in a nice way," Russell says. "Then they said Nathan Fillion was playing opposite me, and that made it that much better." Fillion, who costarred with Russell in the 2007 indie darling Waitress, plays Air Force pilot Steve Trevor, who crash lands on the Amazon's island. "Playing second fiddle to Keri is a wonderful fiddle to play," Fillion says. "I've done it before, I'll do it againquite happily." The Desperate Housewives star adds, "What I like about Steve Trevor is that he's a very real guy. He's very honest and he's very natural. He doesn't apologize for much. And he's ab...
