Formed his own interior-design company, Nate Berkus Associates, at age 24.
Made a 2001 appearance on Oprah Winfrey and then became a regular contributor to the show and O at Home magazine.
Named one of the Sexiest Men Alive by People magazine in 2003.
Survived the 2004 tsunami in Sri Lanka while vacationing at a beachfront cottage with partner Fernando Bengoechea, who was never found.
Wrote a how-to book on redesign called Home Rules in 2005.
Became a host on XM Satellite Radio's Oprah and Friends channel in 2006.
