Mike gives a job to Mandy's new beau, the star quarterback at her school, and Mandy soon realizes he's not a star off the field when he displays a poor work ethic. Meanwhile, Kristin is confused about her relationship with Ryan.
Mike wants Boyd to walk home from school on his own, but Ryan's hesitant to allow this. Meanwhile, Ed and Kyle host a meeting for folks preparing for doomsday; and Eve and Mandy try to keep Vanessa in the dark about something.
Vanessa wants a woman to be elected president, and she tries to get Eve to support this idea. Meanwhile, Ed reveals to Mike that he hasn't been in touch with his daughter for years, prompting Mike and Mandy search for common ground.
Mike thinks Boyd should attend private school after his public school suspends him. Meanwhile, Kristin and Kyle search the restaurant for a loose raccoon; and Mandy proves to be photo shy when Eve wants to take pictures of her for a class assignment.
Mike gets a classic car as a birthday present from his family, but he doesn't get much alone time with his car because its former owner keeps stopping by. Meanwhile, Mandy thinks it's unfair when Vanessa gives Eve permission to go to a music festival.
Bill McKendree taunts Mike and his family at a baseball game, and Ryan impresses Mike with how he handles the situation. Elsewhere, Mandy is deprived of modern technology, so she resorts to using an old ham radio and makes some faraway friends.
Mike meets his lesbian neighbors and learns he has a lot in common with one of them; and Mandy discovers that her boyfriend lied to her, and she gets Kristin and Eve to help her make a special music video to get revenge.
In the second-season finale, Mandy gets into two colleges and selects a party school. Meanwhile, Kristin takes stock of her life and runs into an old coworker who's found success; and Eve's neighbor assists her with her junior ROTC contest.
Mike brings Mandy to work with him when she tries to save Ed's favorite barber shop through an Internet campaign and he's excited that she's found a passion for something; and Vanessa falls asleep at her own business presentation.
Kristin compares laid-back Ryan to her industrious boss, and Ryan comes up short as he remains on strike from his job. Elsewhere, Mike and Eve try to catch one another off guard as Eve works on her sniper training.
