Now that Kristina (Potter) is cancer-free, the stay-at-home mom is going back to work and taking on a new challenge by running for mayor in Season 5.

"She's really going for the gusto and she's really going to live her life now because of what she went through last year," Potter tells TVGuide.com in the video below. "When I read it, I was like, 'Holy, alright, let's do it.' She's so excited to ... seize the moment."

Question: NCIS has been a ratings juggernaut for CBS for many years. It has consistently been the top-rated show. But I wonder if that is going to last. ABC has scheduled Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. opposite NCIS this fall. I know S.H.I.E.L.D. has a lot of positive heat going for it at the moment. It's also directly tied to a series of blockbuster movies. And now the very popular Cote de Pablo is leaving. Her character Ziva's chemistry with Tony has been a major draw. I know the show is going to have to very careful in who they hire to take her place. Could this be the season that knocks NCIS for a loop? Right now, it's looking a bit vulnerable. Parenthood has booked Friday Night Lights alum Jurnee Smollett for a recurring role, TVLine reports.
Smollett will play a smart and feisty woman named Heather whom Kristina (Monica Potter) hires as her campaign manager when she decides to run for office. The arc will reunite Smollett with her FNL producer Jason Katims, as well as Matt Lauria with whom she worked on the show's final two seasons.
