Is fluent in French and Mandarin Chinese; spent eight months during college living in Beijing.
At Harvard in 1985, was one of the founding members of a coed a cappella group called the Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones.
Made her acting debut on a 1990 episode of Law & Order, which starred her father, Paul Sorvino. Despite having her scenes cut, she was still able to secure her Screen Actors Guild card.
Turned down a three-year contract in 1993 to star in the daytime soap Guiding Light.
Her portrayal of an entomologist in the 1997 film Mimic led to her name being used for a chemical defense of the sunburst diving beetle: Mirasorvone.
Her charitable efforts include work on the behalf of AIDS research, UNICEF and a coalition to abolish human trafficking.
Noting the enduring appeal of her 1997 comedy, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, she said in 2011 that a girl once came up to her in Paris and started quoting lines from the movie.
