  • Selected in the first round of the 2003 NHL Entry draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.
  • Scored a goal in his first NHL game, October 5, 2005 against the New York Rangers.
  • Scored first-career hat trick, including two shorthanded goals, February 8, 2006 against the New York Islanders.
  • Became the first player in NHL history to record three 5-on-3 shorthanded goals.
  • Named the 17th captain in Flyers history before the 2008-09 season.
  • Was a finalist for the 2009 Selke Trophy, given to the best defensive forward in the league, losing 945-942 to Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings.
  • Declared a verbal boycott of the local Philadelphia media in October 2009 after questions were raised about the team's drinking and partying. He told Hockey News that the press was "throwing the team under the bus."
  • A street in his hometown of Kenora, Ontario, was renamed Mike Richards Way in 2010.
