The true-life story of journalists Daniel and Mariane Pearl, who travel to Pakistan following 9/11. Daniel is kidnapped, and Mariane leads a worldwide effort to find him before it is too late.
Robert Carlyle is a man who sees life as limitless. His life is good and gets even better when he meets the perfect woman, but when he's faced with a debilitating illness, he realizes that the only thing without limits, is love.
Directed by award-winning filmmakers Michael Winterbottom and Mat Whitecross (co-directors of THE ROAD TO GUANTANAMO), THE SHOCK DOCTRINE is a feature documentary based on Naomi Klein's bestselling book of the same name. THE SHOCK DOCTRINE is a gripping and incisive deconstruction of how free market policies have come to dominate the world through the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries. THE SHOCK DOCTRINE radically challenges the myth that the global free market triumphed on the wings of democracy.
Both the film and the book argue that both big business and governments overexploit natural disasters, economic crises and wars with the very aim of pushing through radical free market policies. Naomi Klein calls this "disaster capitalism." The film traces the doctrine's beginnings in the radical theories of Milton Friedman at the University of Chicago, and its subsequent implementation over the past 40 years in countries as disparate as Augusto Pinochet's Chile, Boris Yeltsin's Russia, Margaret Thatcher's Great Britain, and most recently through the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.
Go Now starring Robert Carlyle, Juliet Aubrey, James Nesbitt
The second feature-length adaptation of author Jim Thompson's acclaimed 1952 crime novel, Michael Winterbottom's unflinching, psychosexual post-noir stars Casey Affleck as Deputy Sheriff Lou Ford, a stoic small-town lawman leading a secret.
Reprising their hilariously fictionalized roles from TRISTRAM SHANDY: A COCK AND BULLSTORY, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon reunite with director Michael Winterbottom for an acerbically witty trip through the English countryside. Coogan is asked by The Observer newspaper to travel through the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, dining in fine restaurants and visiting various historic locations from the life of William Wordsworth. But when his girlfriend backs out on him, he has no one to accompany him on the trip. Enter Brydon, his best friend and source of eternal aggravation. After a half-hearted invitation where Coogan explains he's asked everyone else and that Brydon is his last resort, the two of them set off in the car, armed only with a map and incredible comic timing. They spend much of the trip trying to one-up each other with hilarious, canny dueling impersonations of Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Sean Connery and Woody Allen to name a few. Largely improvised, the film follows the pair through foodie heaven as they stop at some of the best restaurants and inns in the north of England. Though the laughs never cease, the film still manages to reveal something about the nature of comedy, friendship and connection.
