Bayer Leverkusen dismissed coach Sami Hyypia on Saturday (April 05), a day after the club slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Hamburg SV that took their recent record to just one win from the last nine league games. 'After a lot of thought and because of the ongoing crisis we reached the conclusion that a change at this point could help us turn things around urgently,' Leverkusen CEO Michael Schade said in a written statement.
Bayer Leverkusen were drawn against big-spending Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16, while last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund will play Zenit St Petersburg. Following the draw at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday (December 16), Bayer Leverkusen's managing director Michael Schade said:
