Over Smallville's nine-year run, the show's universe has fittingly expanded; yet, fans would like to see a few characters come back.
Though we haven't see her in quite a while, Martha Kent (Annette O'Toole) is still alive and well. Even though Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) is presumably dead, the Superman mythos would have to disagree. Jimmy Olson (Aaron Ashmore) was also lost last season, but the real photog and eventual best friend to Clark Kent (Tom Welling) is still running around somewhere.

A joint statement from Smallville's new quartet of show runners, the CW and Warner Bros. Television pays proper due to Michael Rosenbaum, who won't be returning next season as a series regular. "It has been an honor and pleasure to work with Michael. He is one of the best actors on television and has never failed to bring a new layer to the character of Lex Luthor in every episode," says the missive. "While... we wont have the pleasure of working with him on a weekly basis this fall, we like to think that we havent seen the last of Lex Luthor. Stay tuned."
