Season 4 — Episode 9

This week, we finally got to witness Kathy confirming what she's been mentioning on the few talk shows she's not banned from: she and billionaire Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak have broken up. No big surprise since they had absolutely nothing in common, but I'm glad it was an amicable breakup and that they're still friends. Who wouldn't want to stay friends with Woz? How often does one befriend a billionaire? I thought this episode was a great way for us to bid farewell to Woz, at least when it came to him being the other half of the (according to Kathy) "power couple" of Kathy & Woz. When they ended the episode with the salute-to-Woz montage (a Woz-tage?), it was as if he had passed away. But since the relationship itself died, the Woz-tage was quite fitting.Although Woz seems like a really cool dude, he doesn't exactly exude personality and I wouldn't use the word "humorous" when describing him, so this very Woz-centric episode's laugh quotient wasn't quite as high as the aver... read more

Top 7 Perform

This is a week that I have a tough time relating to. Born in ’76, I never really got the full impact of '60s music and never heard enough that excited me to make me want to go back and visit it. I know this sounds strange coming from a guy that found enough stuff exciting to own 4,000+ pieces of audio from the '80s, which is arguably the worst decade for music. (At least I know El DeBarge and Taco would be on my side of the debate). So a song like "Some Other Guy" is almost like listening to an original for me. Fortunately though, Leiber and Stoller wrote a lot of great tunes that were covered by a mess of bands, so I’m sure I can say I’ve heard most. Side note: Many of the artists I will type as the performer of the songs really aren’t the original performers and I know that. But the artists I type are the versions that I remember as the hits. In a lot of cases, the original Leiber and Stoller song was performed by a soul group to little fanfare and then turned ... read more

Fox Still Mad for Its TV

Fox, which doesn't throw its upfront party until Thursday, has already announced an order for the 13th season of Mad TV. Fair enough, but can we get a moratorium on Stuart? Please? The guy is simply unsettling. read more

American Idol I much prefer Gedeon's...

American IdolI much prefer Gedeon's singing to his odd speaking voice. Once again he made the perfect song choice, as did Chris, who wasn't as impressive as last week but was still on top of the heap. I loved when Chris admitted that he used to have Ryan Seacrest-style hair but shaved it all off when he started going bald. The shrieking you heard was Ryan falling off the stage after facing his worst nightmare. Kevin mentioned his love for Kanye West and then went on to perform one of the blandest, most milquetoast '70s songs ever created. Way to prove your street cred, Chicken Little. I always hum "Vincent" when I think of Kanye — doesn't everyone? Bucky remained in his country-song safety zone with read more

Desperate Housewives You know...

Desperate HousewivesYou know when we get one of those episodes where all of the main Housewives are involved in story lines that we care about and are totally interested in? This one wasn't one of them. The Lynette-Tom story was beyond ridiculous — such a waste of Felicity Huffman's and Doug Savant's talents, not to mention the normally enjoyable Currie Graham as their boss, Ed. Like an advertising exec would play frat-house games with his employees. I thought I was watching Fear Factor with Tom about to eat a donut out of a toilet and Lynette eating the raw meat. But let's talk about what I did like: everything else in this episode that was all about bonding. How perfect for Bree to bond with Betty, for Gabrielle to bond with the Chinese maid, and for Susan to bond with and secretly marry her ex-husband Carl. Love that it'll be their read more
