When Booth's son Parker finds a severed corpse finger in a bird's nest while playing with Booth, the team launches an investigation to find the rest of the body. They locate the corpse in Jefferson Memorial Park, and it soon becomes clear that the death was no accident. With the help of a new middle-aged grad student in the lab (guest star Michael Badalucco), the team identifies the victim as a local veterinarian whose penchant for gambling brings a number of suspects into the picture. When the victim's fatal injuries are found to be from a dog, the team uncovers an illegal dog fighting ring and enlists the help of Cesar Millan to help them connect the forensic canine evidence with the killer dog and its owner. Meanwhile, Booth asks Sweets to psychoanalyze his son who he thinks has been traumatized from finding the finger, and Sweets confronts Hodgins about his attitude in the lab.

Actor John Turturro spent a dozen years getting his script for Mac before the cameras; he'd originally planned to merely act in the film, but the stringent budget required that he direct as well. Turturro plays Mac, one of three grown brothers in an Italian/American family living in 1950s New York. His other siblings are would-be macho man Vico (Michael Badalucco) and idealistic Bruno (Carl Capatoro). All three are unhappily employed at a construction firm run--badly--by Olek Krupa. Convinced he knows more about the business in his little finger than Krupa does in his whole carcass, Mac sets up his own construction company, wooing away most of Krupa's employees. On the verge of great success, Mac finds that his brothers are unwilling to commit themselves to his new business, a fact that causes an irreparable schism in their relationship. Frank (Adam Trese of Laws of Gravity) is in trouble. His dot-com start-up collapses before it goes online, essentially bankrupting him and his partner, Josh (Andrew McCarthy). Frank is forced to leave his fancy Manhattan apartment and move back in with his parents (Robert Vaughn and Hayley Mills), and he can't even bring himself to tell them he's failed. His kooky friend Sal (John Turturro) warns Frank that his priorities are wrong, and sends him to Gina (Aida Turturro), a cheerful psychic. Then Frank comes up with a new idea tailor-made for the dot-com bust, but the first potential investor he meets with, Abrams (Mark Margolis), seems more interested in Frank's diet than his idea, and the second guy (Michael Badalucco) he meets with threatens to steal the idea, causing Frank to collapse in a sweaty panic.
