  • 24's Rajskub Cooks Up Role in Julie and Julia | Movie News | 4/4/2008
Mary Lynn Rajskub is trading computer codes for cookbooks in the upcoming film Julie and Julia. The 24 smarty joins Amy Adams and Meryl Streep in the story of a woman, Julie Powell, who takes a year off to cook and blog about all 524 recipes in Julia Child's famous gastronomic tome, Mastering the Art of French Cooking (from which most of my childhood meals were derived). Streep will play the star chef, whose life in the 1940s and '50s will also be depicted.Rajskub, meanwhile, plays Helen, best friend of Powell (portrayed by Adams). If she's really a best friend, though, I'll expect her to get to taste of all 524 creations. Are you ready for Rajskub's big-screen role? Would you want to feast on a film about cooking and its related anecdotes? — Anna DimondRelated:• Pregnant Pause: "Chloe" Awaits News on 24• 24's Mary Lynn Rajskub Is Pregnant, and More Baby Talk read more
  • 50ish (and Up) and Fabulous! | Body Talk: Inside Hollywood's Obsession With Beauty | 1/2/2008
In Part 4 of TVGuide.com's new Body Talk series, we celebrate stars who are proving that you don't have to be young to be beautiful. The pressure to be perfect in Hollywood isn't too discriminating — most celebs get it most of the time. But as people start to get older, they tend to become a bit more wrinkly, their skin a bit droopier... and they generally don't look like they did at 30. Well, that may happen in real life — but what about on television and in the movies? Some of our favorite TV stars are showing just how gorgeous aging gracefully can be. (Whether that's with some assistance or as a result of healthy living and good genes, we're not speculating.) And one of the nicest things about them? They're playing characters who are... actually their age. Donald Sutherland, 72, and Jill Clayburgh, 63, for example, are standouts as Tripp and Letitia, the parents of the dysfunctional yet successful Darling clan on one of this season's best guilty pleasures, Dirty Sexy... read more
  • ABBA’s Mamma Mia! Trailer Unleashed! | A Beautiful Fraud | 12/14/2007
How can I resist you? Hot on the heels of Hairspray, Mamma Mia! -- the hugely popular NYC tourist must-see based on the naggingly memorable ABBA songbook -- is also making the transition from Broadway stage to screen, with original stage director Phyllida Law behind the camera and a pretty stellar cast out front. Amanda Seyfried (Veronica Mars, Big Love) plays Sophie, the young bride-to-be determined to solve the mystery of her birth dad's identity on the eve of her Greek Isle wedding. Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard and Pierce Brosnan are the three likeliest suspects; Meryl Streep stars as her mom. Universal will be releasing Mamma Mia! in Summer 2008, but the trailer is starting to make the rounds. Will it be the summer’s biggest guilty pleasure? Probably, but who am I to get snarky about ABBA? “Waterloo” was the very first record I ever bought. It cost 98 cents, which makes me kind of pathetic and old. read more
  • X-Files 2 Update, Meryl as Julia Child, More Movie News | Today's News: Our Take | 11/1/2007
The second X-Files movie is really, truly happening. 20th Century Fox has even blocked off July 25, 2008, as the flick's release date. Natch, plot deets are being kept hush-hush, but the pic is said to be a stand-alone thriller (Yay! No mythology!) that will further Mulder and Scully's relationship. I've got goosebumps already.... In other movie news, Meryl Streep has signed on to play Julia Child in Julie and Julia, a Nora Ephron comedy in which a disgruntled temp (Amy Adams) spends a year trying to whip up every recipe in the master's cookbook.... Teeth, the indie buzz-builder about a high school student with a toothed vagina, has had its release moved to February 2008. — Ben Katner read more
