American Horror Story: Asylum
Our top moments of the week:
10. Best Overacting: When Lindsay Lohan hires Million Dollar Decorators' Kathryn Ireland to redesign her home, their conversations about the project quickly devolve into very weird territory. "In order to become yourself, you need to go through different ups and downs, or else you'll never know who you are," Lohan tells Ireland. We're not really sure what that has to do with decorating, but you know, whatever works for you, Linds! And you thought she was overacting in Liz & Dick!

It's hard out there for a madam. Meredith Vieira guested on ABC's General Hospital nearly 10 years ago as Bree Flanders, owner of an upscale call-girl business who tried to hire one of Luke Spencer's ladyloves. Bree's back on the soap Friday, Dec. 14, only this time in a very different line of work. Vieira gave TV Guide Magazine the exclusive dish.

Ann Curry
Ann Curry learned that you're a member of the Today family until the ratings say you're not.
Curry spent her final morning as co-anchor with Matt Lauer on Thursday, giving a tearful goodbye before heading to a new role as the program's anchor-at-large and NBC News national and international correspondent (which came with a new long-term contract). Savannah Guthrie, NBC News legal correspondent and co-anchor of the third hour of Today for the last year, will be named as Lauer's new partner on Friday, according to sources familiar with the plan.
Curry, who joined Today in 1997 as a newsreader, was part of ...

One lesson learned in this wearying week of morning-show warfare: Some people should never give up their dream day job. Which is why it was so gratifying for the week to end with the announcement that Today's Matt Lauer was staying put for years to come. I'd like to think he saw the future — or maybe Today's future — staring at him on Wednesday, when he sat across from...

Those writing about the inexorably declining ratings of American Idol will have to stand down for at least a day as the amateur talent competition stayed even with last week in the industry-prized 18-to-49 demographic, according to preliminary Nielsen figures.
Now, we'll have to see if the cliff-hanger involving the hopeful who fainted and fell off the stage gooses the ratings for Fox. (By comparison, fair or not, NBC's The Voice grabbed 17.69 million viewers with a 6.6 demo rating Monday night on its first regularly scheduled airing.)

Mariska Hargitay
One of the better things about a good episode of NBC's stalwart Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is that you can rarely tell where it's headed. Is tonight's cameo-heavy hour (10/9c) the latest condemnation of reality TV's sordid excesses? Sure looks that way at the start, as we encounter an especially slimy Michael McKean (relishing his repulsiveness) as the predatory producer of a crap-tastic train wreck titled Showgirls, featuring young hopefuls who would do "whatever it takes" to land the starring role in a Broadway musical. (No small irony this is airing the week of the all-important-to-NBC Smash premiere, where such things could never happen!) As he liquors up a nervous contestant for her "audition," he leers for her to "seduce the audience. Let them know you want this." Doesn't take a genius to know where this is going.
