General Hospital Shockers: Writer Ron Carlivati on Sonny, Ava and Robin

It's been a crazy couple of weeks on ABC's General Hospital! Femme fatale Ava Jerome (Maura West) was revealed to be the murderer of Connie Falconeri (Kelly Sullivan). Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) tried to kill A.J. Quartermaine (Sean Kanan) by shooting him point-blank in the chest. And Dr. Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough) abandoned her husband, Patrick (Jason Thompson), and her little girl, Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer), to leave Port Charles and save the life of her old friend Jason, a controversial decision that has infuriated many GH fans. What's behind these big, bold, ballsy moves? TV Guide Magazine got some insight from the show's head writer Ron Carlivati.

The Best in Soaps 2013

Best Soap: Days of Our Lives and General Hospital (tie)
Hey, we tried to pick one over the other — really, we did — but we simply couldn't. NBC's Days of Our Lives, the soap that once costarred Satan, continued to wow us with its awesomely trashy shocks: Stefano hires a hit man to cut off Rafe's penis! Sonny is forced to deliver his boyfriend's baby! Kristen beds a drugged-out priest and gets it all on video! But mostly Days did what it does best — bring us deeply involving relationship drama with characters we've loved and cherished for decades. Its Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama in June — the show's first in 35 years — was well-deserved.

Maura West Takes General Hospital By Storm

Is it too early to call Maura West the soap sensation of the decade? Oh, hell no! Already a two-time Emmy winner as the marvelously maddening Carly Tenney on As the World Turns, West hit General Hospital in May and has electrified the ABC show with her performance as mob spawn Ava Jerome. Next week, the deadly glamorpuss gets serious about her plan to steal Port Charles away from the town's current crime lord, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). What better time for TV Guide Magazine to sit down with the wild, wild West?

The Young and the Restless' Eric Braeden Is Still Causing Controversy

There's not a more popular — or badder — badass in soaps than The Young and the Restless' Victor Newman. But even he's pushing it with the fans. The megalomaniacal patriarch — played by Emmy winner Eric Braeden — earned considerable viewer backlash last month when he threw his ex-wife, Diane (Maura West), from the back of an ambulance and left her bruised and bloodied on the road. (Sure, Di's a lying, conniving skank who was trying to destroy Victor's life, but still!) This week, Victor pays a ...

Maura Goes West for The Young and the Restless

Maura West won double Emmys playing As the World Turns' Carly Tenney and is one of the most revered women in soaps — so how come she's so nervous about joining The Young and the Restless? TV Guide Magazine caught up with the actress, who hits Genoa City October 8 as the new Diane Jenkins, and found out she's downright starstruck... read more
