NBA Celebrity All-Stars Announced

Alyssa Milano by Donato Sardella/ WireImage.com

Most All-Star games are dullsville — did anyone watch last night's Pro Bowl? — but the NBA does its best to keep interesting. The annual NBA All-Star Celebrity Game is often an amusing spectacle leading up to the big game. This year's eclectic collection of singers, actors and WNBA players should keep that tradition going. Ne-Yo? Taylor Hicks? Ando from Heroes?Alyssa Milano and Gabrielle Union will coach the two teams. Access Hollywood co-anchor Tony Potts, who was MVP of last year's game, will be on the floor for Milano's squad. Here are the two teams, which will face off Friday (Feb. 15, 7 pm/ET, ESPN) at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans:New Orleans Team: Ne-Yo (Grammy-winning singer) Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights) Taylor Hicks (2006 American Idol winner) Seth Gilliam (The Wire) James Lafferty (One Tree Hill) Master P (rapper and Dancing With the Stars alum) Ruth Riley (WNBA All-Star, San Antonio S... read more

Fun & Games
The lighter side of reality TV

It's easy, sometimes even enjoyable, to disparage reality TV, a genre so notorious for bottom-feeding it just asks for abuse. (When I heard someone was shopping a show reuniting Amy Fisher with the Buttafucos, I thought about early retirement.) Despite all the soul-numbing creepshows we've witnessed — Anna Nicole Smith, the Gottis, Danny Bonaduce, we know ye too well — there is a gratifyingly popular trend to deliver shows with one goal in mind: to entertain, leaving you with a grin instead of a grimace for having wasted your time. Here's my ranking of the current crop. American Idol Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8 pm/ET, FoxThe hook: Watching someone’s musical dreams come true —  eventually. But not before we endure weeks of painful auditions by people who are way t read more

Dancing with the Stars The competition...

Dancing with the StarsThe competition was hot in more ways than one tonight. With Master P out of the game, everyone was stepping up their game for the samba. And they all seem to have caught Lisa, George and Edyta's tanning disease, too. Stacy and Tony: I'm so disappointed that the scene of them in the samba club is the only time we got to hear actual Brazilian music. And I think Stacy's giggly porn quote, "My butt is going crazy! It tickles!" messed with the judges' brains. She was good, but not "perfect 30" good. Though she did look like she was having more fun than in past weeks.George and Edyta: Every time I watch him having a blast on the stage, I forget that this is a competition. That is, until Ed read more

Dancing with the Stars Finally!...

Isaiah Washington, Grey's Anatomy

Dancing with the StarsFinally! By the looks of all those montages and Tom's weird sit-down interview, the producers were very ready to say goodbye to Master P and Ashly. I seriously doubt they had all that prepared for any other couples. And with their departure, this will actually be a tough competition from now on. (Oh, and P? I think I'd rather watch you dance than have to endure that lame Scarface accent ever again.) Even with the new all-live format, the result show felt like so much filler. Regardless of what you think of Spice Girls 2.0, the Pussycat Dolls, wasn't it a little out of place to have them sing their hit without a ballroom dancer in sight? Also, why was that other guy singing about the cha-cha (was that the read more

Dancing with the Stars The producers...

Nashawn Kearse, Desperate Housewives

Dancing with the StarsThe producers must have heeded my warning last week, because I don't know how many times Tom and Samantha reminded us that next week, the only time to see the dances will be on Thursdays — like it's some revolutionary concept. So, powers-that-be, if you're reading now, my next request is that you keep the Thursday shows to one hour and stop cutting into my Earl time! On to the results. I believe Ashly was the only one truly shocked to hear that she and Master P were once again saved by the votes. Next week, I wouldn't blame the judges if they gave P a grand total of three points, so that the voting will finally count for nothing. It's a classic scenario, though: The general public identifies m read more

ABC SHOWS NO FAITH

On the heels of reports that ABC has halted production on the Emily's Reasons Why Not, which will be kept off the air for at least another two weeks (as will Jake in Progress), comes word that Hope & Faith will remain on hiatus through February sweeps to make room on Friday for the refrigerator-sized Master P a permanently expanded Dancing with the Stars results show. read more

Click here for our minute-by-minute coverage of last night's Golden Globe Awards. FRIDAYDancing with the StarsI don't know enough about television programming to tell if ABC's shooting itself in the high heel with this loooong results show. If I didn't have to write about it and if I knew that every single dance would air unedited again on Friday, I'd skip Thursday's episode altogether. Of course, I did want to rewatch some performances: George's "Top Hat," Stacy's near-perfect rumba and Tatum's meltdown. In confessional, Tatum seemed to blame it all on the praise people gave her after the first episode, then she burst i read more

Dancing with the Stars Tom Bergeron...

Dancing with the Stars
Tom Bergeron
was faster than the quickstep with his off-the-cuff humor tonight — calling the rowdy audience soccer fans, warning the judges not to tell Drew Lachey he wasn't "in sync," suggesting that Master P start a line of dancing shoes. I was also tickled by the way George Hamilton was orchestrating all these little soap-operatic scenes for the moments just before the commercial. I'm glad some people are taking the competitive edge off things.

Lisa and Louis: I always thought of the rhumba as Baby and Johnny's dance from Dirty Dancing. Even without the lift, this was much dirtier. But what, dear god, is up with choosing that read more
