Emmy Nom Lee Pace Teases Daisies' New Season, Shares Casting Scoop

What is Lee Pace's good luck charm as he heads into Sunday's Emmy Awards as a nominee in the Lead Actor/Comedy race? "I brought my sister," the actor told TVGuide.com at Kate Somerville's pre-Emmys "White Tent Event." In fact, Pace saw to it that sib Sally was properly pampered with a facial from Somerville, whose star-studded clientele includes the likes of Kate Walsh and Felicity Huffman. However no such beautifying was on tap for Lee himself (yet). Asked if he might go in for a tweezing, he deferred, "My brows are what I got, so…."Pace then talked up Pushing Daisies' Season 2 opener (airing Oct. 1), in which the killer at large is offing people with… bees. "It's a fun case," he said. "It throws you back to that Daisies style — fun, whimsical and totally romantic."The pie-maker might be a busier baker this season, seeing as several cool guest stars are stopping by. In addition to Fred Willard (as a murdered magician) and David Arquette (as a bud of Ned's, "a misfit ...read more

Jim (Casey Affleck) begrudgingly returns to his hometown in rural Indiana after failing to make it on his own in New York. He soon remembers why he left: a doting but overbearing mother (Mary Kay Place), a distant father (Seymour Cassel), and a depressed older brother (Kevin Corrigan) whose "accidents" seem suspect at best. Jim is soon forced to take on his brother's duties - working at his parent's factory and helping out with his two rambunctious nieces. Crippled by obligations and anxieties, Jim trudges on though every day monotones and the family's collapse after mom is mistakenly taken for a suburban drug smuggler. Almost miraculously, hope springs from his developing relationship with a local nurse (Liv Tyler) and her young son, and Jim slowly learns to move forward without leaving anyone behind. Lonesome Jim is directed by Steve Buscemi and features heartfelt performances by Casey Affleck, Liv Tyler and Mary Kay Place. Steve Buscemi's seamless direction and James C. Strous

Seeing the TV-movie Moms on ...

Question: Seeing the TV-movie Moms on Strike got me thinking (no small feat). Wasn't there an Afterschool Special back in the '80s that dealt with the same subject? If memory serves, Yeardley Smith played the daughter.

Answer: Memory does indeed serve, Rhonda. Matter of fact, that 1984 Afterschool Special was called... Mom's on Strike.

Based on Stephanie S. Tolan's book The Great Skinner Strike, it starred Mary Kay Place (folk singer Loretta on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman) as a put-upon housewife whose husband and kids refused to help out around the house. When pitching a fit didn't get any results, she pitched a tent in the front yard and began picketing for more respect. After Dad (Stephen Keep) made the mistake of dumping the chores on his two daughters (Ms. Smith, who would later become an animation l read more
