Paula, Mystery "Reunion" Headline Today Concert Series

Paula Abdul by Sam Jones/Fox

Times like this, I don't miss our office being a stone's throw from 30 Rock. NBC has announced the lineup for Today's annual concert series, and the tourists first will be amassing to catch Paula Abdul in action, on April 25. Neil Diamond picks up the baton the following Friday, followed by Mary J. Blige, a "surprise reunion concert" (the Partridges, dare I hope?) and Alanis Morisette. The B-52s, somewhat appropriately, mark Memorial Day with a May 26 performance, then cede the stage to Donna Summer. June brings on Chris Brown, Kenny Chesney, Rihanna and Coldplay, while July features Ashlee Simpson (or a facsimile thereof), Rascal Flatts, Natasha Bedingfield and one Miss Miley Cyrus.Standing space is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis at Rockefeller Plaza. So, which of these acts might drag you into our fair city? — MWM read more

Mary J. Blige Suits Llanview "Just Fine"

Mary J. Blige by Kevin Mazur/WireImage.com

Usually, encores don't take a year and a half. Mary J. Blige will guest on ABC's One Life to Live on Friday, Feb. 15, and Monday, Feb. 18, marking the six-time Grammy winner's second trip to Llanview. As she did in July 2006 — after which her album sales soared 40 percent — Blige will appear as herself, this time serving as a surprise guest at Starr's sweet-16 party. (OK, well, it was a surprise.) Accompanied by her band, the songstress will perform her Grammy-nominated single "Just Fine," as well as "Hurt Again," a second song from her latest CD. read more

A Big Twist on Top Model

Ambreal just barely kept her spot before a shocking twist occurred in last night's episode. Ambreal by Mike Rosenthal/Pottle Productions Inc/the CW

Episode Recap: "The Girl Who Gets a Mango"At the start of this week’s ANTM, it seemed as though we’d waving bye-bye to Ebony. She's been rubbing the judges the wrong way nearly every week so far, so it wouldn’t have been the biggest shocker to see her go. As Heather discussed her problem with always giving the camera a profile shot, a surprise guest came to the door. The girls were ecstatic to find it was Tyson Beckford, and he was there to teach the group how to be good spokespersons. They were each asked to grab an item in the house and try to sell it. Most of them seemed to go with the idea that sex sells, and tried to sound as seductive as possible. Little did they know that sex would definitely not sell in the challenge that awaited them. When the girls arrived at the location of this week’s challenge, they learned their task would be to come up with a 30-second PSA for the Keep a Child Alive charity. Despite stumbling on their lines and even the name of th... read more

Fashion Rocks Reveals Plan to Just Duet

This year's Fashion Rocks special, airing Sept. 7 on CBS and hosted by Entourage's Jeremy Piven, has added Grammy faves Mary J. Blige, Maroon 5 and Chad Kroeger to its already-impressive playlist of performers. What's more, the telecast will deliver duets from Blige and Usher, Fergie and Ludacris, and Alicia Keys with Santana. On the mere-presenter side, Jessica Alba, Mischa Barton, Tyra Banks, Teri Hatcher, Denis Leary and Emily Procter are among the new adds.My wife has tickets to this but is all, "Gee, it starts so late...." Should she go? I say yes. read more

"Gary's Desk"

This season has been a real roller-coaster ride in terms of quality but tonights episode was most definitely a high point in my book First we had Gary Busey using Johnny Drama as his body art canvas Next Mary J Blige stopped in for her annual Make-Me-Understand-What-I-Pay-You-For meeting And finally Peter Jackson offered Eric a glimpse of legitimacy as Vinces representation All of these storylines were funny and entertaining and reminiscent of what Ive always liked best about this show how these four childhood friends navigate the ins and outs of HollywoodI dont know if Gary Busey is as crazy as his public persona would have you believe but he was pure lunacy tonight as he introduced Drama to the high art of body painting Meanwhile Ari prepped for his meeting with Mary J Blige while mediating the sibling rivalry between identical twin agents Naturally Mary J was the only one who could tell which was which and she happened to like the read more

The Hot Chicks: Dixie Trio Triumph at Grammys

The Dixie Chicks were the big winners at Sunday's Grammy Awards, taking home no less than five hunks of gold, including kudos for record, song and country album of the year. Comeback kid Mary J. Blige and The Red Hot Chili Peppers were the evening's second-most honored, walking away with three wins each. Among the night's spectacles were a blink-and-you-missed-it reunion for The Police (remembering that saucy "Roxanne"), Justin Timberlake dueting with (oh-so-nervous) "My Grammy Moment" winner Robyn Troup, and a powerhouse vocal tribute to James Brown by Christina Aguilera. For a full list of winners, lotsa "glammy" photos and more, check out TVGuide.com's complete Grammys coverage. read more

February 9, 2007: We've Got Spirits, Yes We Do!

Applause to Ghost Whisperer for a wicked-cool Grammy Awards tie-in with Mary J. Blige as a guest star. She did a great job acting, and didn't seem at all to be "big music star playing actor," which often happens when pop stars get cast in TV shows and movies. It was actually her performance this evening that made me cry when her character realized her little brother was in the light. I also thought it was clever that we wound up hearing one of her songs through the cheerleading competition, rather than through an obligatory forced concert at the end of the show. Very clever and smooth Grammy Awards cross-promotion for CBS.Melinda was an adorable little freak in high school, wasn't she? She looked like a cute manga character, which I wouldn't exactly consider "nerdy," even by today's standards. But I s'pose to cheerleaders and the popular types, she would seem a bit different and be treated like a freak. Actually, her character in high school reminded me of the role that J. Love play... read more
