  • At the age of 13, she contracted polio, forcing her to spend three months isolated in the hospital, leaving her with a permanently curved spine and slightly withered left hand.
  • Her father, Alleyne, served as the Mayor of Bath in 1952.
  • Served as the cookery editor for Ideal Home magazine between 1970 and 1973.
  • Her first cookbook, The Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook, was published in 1970, and went on to sell over two million copies. She has written more than seventy cookbooks since then.
  • In 1994, she and her daughter Annabel launched a range of original branded salad dressings and sauces.
  • Became a patron of the charity, Child Bereavement UK, after her involvement with the charity in the wake of her son William's death.
