The high school in Athens, Alabama, had the greatest football coach ever seen, until one fateful day during the state championship 12 years ago, when the coach's son was killed during the game. The town was never the same. After that tragic event, the legendary coach retired, and the once-great team suffered losing seasons ever since. The county decides to close the school at the end of the academic year, and there seems to be no hope in sight. Yet one student holds out hope for a miracle to save the school, and it arrives in the immense talent of an orphaned football player whose personal goals outweigh those of the team, and in the return of the legendary coach for "one last season."
