Family and Stars Remember David Carradine

David Carradine

Family and stars alike are sharing fond memories of David Carradine. The actor, 72, was found dead Thursday in his hotel room in Bangkok, where he was reportedly working on a movie.

"I was deeply saddened by the news of David Carradine's passing," director Martin Scorsese told the Associated Press. "We met when we made Boxcar Bertha together, almost 40 years ago. I have very fond memories of our time together..." read more

Kill Bill, Kung Fu Star David Carradine Dies in Bangkok

David Carradine

Kill Bill and Kung Fu star David Carradine, a seemingly tireless actor who moved easily between serious drama, action thrillers, and somber martial arts roles, was found dead in a hotel room in Bangkok, his manager's office said Thursday. Carradine was 72.

The cause of death was under investigation, according to the office of his manager, Chuck Binder. A Thai police official told CNN the actor was found in a closet, hanging by a nylon rope that was possibly taken from the hotel room's curtains. There was no sign of forced entry, the official told CNN. read more

Surface: Burning Questions Answered!

Miles finally met Laura and Rich in Surface's finale.

Talk about making a splash: Surface, NBC's freshman sea-creature feature, signed off last Monday with a finale filled with lots of tidal waves and slithery beasties — if not satisfying answers about what exactly is going on. TVGuide.com had the pleasure of picking the brain of series cocreator Josh Pate by hitting him with some burning questions (including, yes, "Will Surface be back in the fall?") TVGuide.com: Was it always the plan to have all the principals finally unite in the first-season finale?Josh Pate: Yes. Yes it was. We always wanted to 'cross the streams.'" At first NBC gave us a full pickup, and then they gave us this weird 15 [episode] order, so where the finale fell was changed around, but we always wanted the characters read more

Surface "I thought it was gonna...

Surface"I thought it was gonna kill me. I really did." Are you referring to the talking monkey girl, or this episode in general? 'Cause if it's the latter, well then, Crazy-Eyed Rich, I'm right there with you. What the hell is going on? We've got two, count 'em, two episodes left to get all this business wrapped up before the "finale" (be it season or series), and we're choosing now to introduce the idea that creepy Agent Lee is actually an ageless genetic-engineering pioneer? What? No, really. What? And to top it all off, he's gonna have my girl Martha Plimpton whacked? But she just got here! With her geeky little outfits and delightfully spunky haircut and the having of actual answers! Now I'm never gonna get the chance to thank her for drugging Dr. Laura and lea read more

Surface You know, back in September...

Heather Graham, Emily's Reasons Why Not

SurfaceYou know, back in September when this show premiered and we first started wondering where the sea beasties came from, never in a million years would my guess have been Martha Plimpton. Way to keep us guessing, writers! Dr. Laura's boneheaded decision-making skills continue to reach ever more death-defying heights: This hour alone she manages to almost answer the door for rogue government agents, reply to an e-mail from an unknown sender while they're on the lam, agree to ditch Crazy-Eyed Rich in favor of Crazy-Eyed Plimpton (you just can't tell 'cause she's wearing sunglasses) and go gallivanting off into the wide blue yonder in a tiny prop plane and a blindfold. No wonder the feds have been so successful at discrediting your professional reputation there, Doc — not so much with the read more

Could that Birkin bag be more...

Nip/Tuck

Could that Birkin bag be more mismatched for vintage-cords-and-old-baby-T's Rory? More importantly, why did overdyed crocodile skin score such high relationship points? Emily is convinced the bag means security. I'm not quite sure what Rory thinks, though who could believe she had no idea how expensive and coveted that bag really is? (Surely her mother once made some witty reference to proud owners Gwyneth, Madonna or Martha.) What an opportune time to tell Logan she loves him! (At least she didn't do it as she was hugging that pink monstrosity.) I'm sorry, but I'm just not seeing it. Expensive gifts, whirlwind trips, wild parties… whatever. The guy always has that something-smells-bad look on his face, and all he does is complain. Couldn't he have come up with a better response to Rory's three little words? "I've told a lot of girls I love them and didn't mean it." Charming. read more

I was watching The Goonies on ...

Question: I was watching The Goonies on TV the other night with my roommate, and we saw an unfamiliar part with an octopus near the end. There's a piece of dialogue in the normal release in which the Data character refers to an octopus, but we'd never seen it before. We've asked everyone we know if they've ever seen this different version, and they all say no. We're beginning to think we're crazy or something; can you assure us that we're not?

Answer: Consider yourself assured. The scene in which a giant octopus attacks Martha Plimpton was cut from the theatrical release of The Goonies (1985), which is also the version that's on tape. But the scene has been put back in for TV, presumably to increase the running time; although I haven't seen the PG-rated Goonies since it was new, it seems unlikel read more

Question: Please help! This may sound a bit strange or funny, in 1998 I was pregnant with my daughter and in the course of choosing a name for her, I stumbled upon an article in TV Guide. I honestly couldn't tell you much about it, but it featured an actress named Ever whose last name might have begun with the letter "C." Anyhow, I lost the article and can't remember the exact name of the actress and I need your help. This has a bit of importance to me because when my daughter grows up and asks for whom or what I named her after, I would like to have an answer. By the way, my daughter's name is Skye Ever. If you could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.Answer: Little Skye is named for actress Ever Carradine, daughter of actor Robert (Revenge of the Nerds, The Long Riders) niece of Keith (Na read more
