The Tuesday Playlist: TV's Funny Ladies, Pre-Inauguration Specials, Face Off Returns, More

If I counted right, you can hear Betty White say "I'm the luckiest broad on two feet" at least three times during the course of the "Funny Ladies" retrospective that kicks off a new season of PBS' Pioneers of Television (check tvguide.com listings). Who could or would want to doubt her? The evidence is right there in clips and stills from this living legend's earliest TV appearances in the 1940s and '50s, establishing her as a versatile broadcaster and gung-ho performer even before Lucille Ball made us fall in love with her — and blazing a trail for all who would follow.

But this week was filled with them, as such unlikely sources as unhappy employees, CSPAN, and a debate about the Fourth Amendment provided doses of mordant comedy. Of course, we also got our usual, predictably solid joy from Cougar Town and a celebrity sing-along — plus a shockingly poignant moment from... The Hills? We can hardly believe it ourselves. Welcome to Top Moments: Ode to Joy Edition.

Here's the bad news: As his contract...

Here's the bad news: As his contract negotiations drag on, Kristoff St. John's status at The Young and the Restless remains in question. That's just wrong. Daytime's answer to Denzel has starred on the CBS sudser since 1991 and he needs to stay, OK? The better news: St. John has been nominated for yet another NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series, alongside Y&R's Bryton McClure (Devon) and Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm); All My Children's Michael B. Jordan (Reggie); and The Bold and the Beautiful's Antonio Sabato Jr. (Dante). The nominees for Outstanding Actress are Passions' Marla Gibbs (Aunt Irma) and Tracey Ross (Eve) as well as Y&R's Christel Khalil (ex-Lily), Victoria Rowell (Drucilla) and Tonya Lee Williams (Olivia). The 37th Annual NAACP Image Awards air March 3 on Fox. read more
