  • The son of a diplomat, he moved around a lot while growing up; lived in (among other places) Trinidad and Tobago, Paris and Washington.
  • Formed a comedy team (The Audience) with future Kids in the Hall cohort Bruce McCulloch in Calgary in the '80s.
  • His popular character, Mr. Tiscic the headcrusher, who playfully used his fingers to "crush heads" of passersby from a distance, was based on an angry Yugoslavian man who once lived next door to McKinney.  
  • Joined Saturday Night Live in 1995, the only Kids in the Hall cast member to do so when all five players from the show were offered SNL spots by the producer of both shows, Lorne Michaels.
  • Received the prestigious Peter Ustinov Award for Comedy in 2009.
