Benson and Stabler deal with a murder suspect's fierce lawyer (Lena Olin) as they reopen a similar 20-year-old case. DA Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) then questions the legality of the attorney's actions.
Benson and Stabler investigate the assault of a disabled woman who cannot speak. They narrow in on two prime suspects, the victim's sister (Jill Scott) and nephew (Quinton Aaron), and they try to get the victim to stand up for herself.
The case of a woman found murdered in her bed reminds Cragen of a 30-year-old case from the Bronx. The investigation then leads Benson and Stabler to question a patrol cop (Jaclyn Smith) and the prime suspect's ex-lover (Ann-Margret).
An ADA (Sharon Stone) who is Stabler's ex-partner requests that he and Benson investigate a case involving a father accused of murdering his two young daughters in a fire. Stabler then resorts to some problematic methods of interrogation.
In the 11th-season finale, an 8-year-old boy with feuding parents is kidnapped. The case eventually puts detectives in a dangerous standoff and leads ADA Marlowe to make some surprising revelations about her personal history.
A 10-year-old girl runs away from her adoptive parents (Joan Cusack and Peter Strauss) and is found with a man (Henry Ian Cusick) who denies any wrongdoing. Detectives then learn that the girl's parents are hiding something about their past.
A woman (Jennifer Love Hewitt) objects to having a rape kit done after she is raped repeatedly by the same man. Benson then learns that some precincts don't even process their rape kits, but an L.A. detective (Skeet Ulrich) is able to help with the case.
Detectives investigate a teenage girl's death and discover that she was a victim of human trafficking. They then seek help from a friend (Gloria Reuben) at the U.S. attorney's office. Meanwhile, Cragen is displeased with his precinct's building decay.
Two men (Michael Gladis and Kevin Alejandro) are beaten and branded on their chests. After a suspect is found, surprising memories emerge that cause a shift in the case. David Alan Grier and Jason Wiles also guest star.
