Now that Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has been renewed for Season 14, star Mariska Hargitay wants her character Olivia Benson to find long-lasting love.
"ADA Haden (Harry Connick Jr.) made her realize that there is hope," Hargitay told TVGuide.com at her fifth annual Joyful Heart Gala. "She was so broken and in pain and devastated with the departure of Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni), that the truth is, now that he's gone I think there's room. With him there I think she had blinders on and now she's going, 'Wait a minute there's a whole other world out there.'"

Celebrities such as Debra Messing, Glenn Close and Hilary Swank are very excited about President Barack Obama's support of same-sex marriage.
As the former star of NBC's Will & Grace (one of the first successful shows to portray openly gay characters), Messing was particularly moved by the President's statement.

"To have the President of the United States come out and openly support equal marriage rights... and [for Joe Biden] to say that Will & Grace has done more to educate the country about gays and lesbians —it's humbling. Warren Leight joined Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as its showrunner just before star Christopher Meloni jumped ship. It was a particularly dismal time for NBC. Nobody would blame Leight if he wanted out of the long-running procedural after just one season. But it seems the opposite is true.
"I don't want it to be a victory lap," Leight tells TVGuide.com of a possible Season 14. "I want it to be 14 years down, seven to go, as opposed to 14 years down and it's been a good run."
The current season of SVU hasn't been its strongest, but it has perhaps been its most interesting. After the exits of Meloni and longtime showrunner Neal Baer, ratings have dropped (6.9 million/1.9 average versus last season's 8.8 million/2.7) and with little help from its lead-in, the struggling Rock Center with Brian Williams. But ratings don't tell the whole story.

Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay has inked a new deal with Universal Television to continue on the long-running procedural, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Under the new contract, Hargitay will remain with the studio that produces the NBC series, but it doesn't guarantee that SVU will be renewed for a 14th season.
