Marie Osmond Literally Dances Till She Drops

Marie Osmond and Jonathan Roberts by Carol Kaelson/ABC

Perhaps it was exhaustion. Perhaps it was the training diet. Perhaps she was overcome by the glare from the garish trophy located just off camera. In any case, Dancing with the Stars contender Marie Osmond on Monday night took to the floor, literally, upon completing a samba with pro partner Jonathan Roberts. As the judges assayed Osmond's performance, "She was laughing and then sank like a stone," an ABC rep tells the AP. "Everyone froze." (Watch video here.)After returning from a hasty commercial break, host Tom Bergeron shared that Osmond's first words upon coming to were, "Oh crap" — and then he asked the editor for a clip to send into one of those crazy home-video shows.Osmond explained on air that "once in a while... when I get winded, I stop breathing." Team Osmond went on to receive a score of 21 (out of 30).Related: Backstage at Dancing with the Stars: What Really Happened to Marie read more

Backstage at Dancing with the Stars: What Really Happened to Marie

Jonathan Roberts and Marie Osmond, Dancing with the Stars

It was frightening to be in the Dancing with the Stars audience last night. We've seen celebrities push their way through pain and fatigue. We've seen Jennie Garth crash and burn when she landed in a heap at the end of her second-week routine. But we've never seen a star pass out and lie motionless on the ballroom floor. Here's what you didn't see following Marie Osmond's collapse: After host Tom Bergeron cut to commercial, Osmond's brother Jimmy and her children rushed to her side. Her manager ran onto the floor, as did the paramedics. She was lying on her side, knees bent, not moving. Her partner, Jonathan Roberts, was holding her head in his hands. "Marie has so much fun all the time that read more

Marie, Are You Alright?!?

"Oh Crap!" Jonathan Roberts, Marie Osmond by Carol Kaelson/ABC

Well, I think it's safe to say tonight got off to a rocky start. After delivering a decent samba, Marie Osmond passed out right on the ballroom floor! Longest. Commerical Break. Ever. I could be mistaken, but I thought I heard a few laughs from the audience at first, who must have thought she was joking around. But they quickly fell silent when Tom Bergeron went to break. During the commercial, I got so worried. I started to wonder what would happen if something went seriously wrong with her. Visions of heart attacks, strokes and aneurysms went through my head. Would the show really go on? Thankfully, she just became winded, and despite some embarrassment she's going to be fine. What a trooper! But Samantha Harris had it right; fainting was not going to get her a 10. This dance garnered Marie her lowest score yet.How great was Jane Seymour? When her dance started, I got a good view of the back of her dress, or lack thereof. What a body on her! I was amazed a woman 29 years my senior... read more

Go Backstage at DWTS!

There's less Marie to love these days, thanks to her on-stage workouts. Jonathan Roberts, Marie Osmond by Carol Kaelson/ABC

by Deborah Starr SeibelEveryone talks about weight loss on Dancing with the Stars (tonight at 9 pm/ET, ABC), and for good reason. If you stay in the game long enough, the long hours of practice — some are putting in as many as six hours a day — can't help but whittle away any extra pounds and inches. Marie Osmond is over the moon about losing 3 inches from her waist...read more read more

What the Lift is Going on Here?

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Cameron! Cameron Mathison, Edyta Sliwinska by Carol Kaelson/ABC

Episode Recap: "Week Four"Did the foot touch the floor? Who cares! I love the lift. Carrie Ann was digging her grave with the audience by calling out Jane Seymour, Jennie Garth and company. I consider a lift to be something over the shoulder... like Dirty Dancing! Let the people lift, I say. Here is my main problem with the show: of the two dances each performance night, one is always more exciting than the other. How can you expect me to be wowed by a waltz when the Paso Doble is setting the floor on fire? Is it just me? What do my loyal readers think? I think it would probably get boring if everyone did the same dance, though, so I really have no solution to my problem.Tonight's BestOur first perfect score went to Sabrina Bryan. I must say it was well-deserved. She set the bar very high for the night and though some came close, Sabrina has shown she is the front-runner in this competition. At this point, I have no idea if anyone can beat her!Where did Cameron Mathison come from? Th... read more

Dancing with the Stars Backstage Report: No Pain, No Gain

Jane Seymour and Tony Dovolani, Dancing with the Stars

Every Monday and Tuesday night, Dancing with the Stars' head costume designer stands at the back of the studio audience waiting for the show to begin. It's his reward to himself for making it through another grueling week. He needs to see his staff's original creations come to life as the stars and pros enter the ballroom down the twin twinkling staircases. Conception, design, manufacture and fitting of these highly technical dance garments all happen in the space of five short days. Major adjustments happen within hours of the show. The colors, fabrics, feathers and Swarovski crystals all have to be just right. "I have to be here," says Randall Christensen. "It's like watching my babies being born." But on this Monday night, he's already seen something that took his breath away: Jane Seymour, in dress rehearsal, performing the tango. "She is read more

Captain and Tennille: Love (and DVDs) Will Keep Them Together

The Captain and Tennille

In the '70s the Captain and Tennille reigned supreme in the world of pop music with high-sheen tunes like "Love Will Keep Us Together" and "Muskrat Love." The quirky husband-and-wife team of Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille were even positioned to be the next Sonny and Cher with a wacky variety series in '76, but after squabbling with ABC about the direction of the show (C&T wanted more music, execs wanted more comedy), the two decided to sail away after one season and leave the lowbrow yuks to Donny & Marie. The couple would soon return to TV with specials that had read more

Jennie Garth is Tango-licious!

Mel B jives to the top! Melanie Brown, Maksim Chmerkovskiy by Carol Kaelson/ABC

Episode RecapTango! Tango! Tango! And the jive! Without a doubt, Jennie Garth was my pick of the tango dances! You could see the fire and anger in her face, which is what the tango is all about! I was glad to see her strike back after her slip last week! She didn't score the highest, but I think her improvement was the most notable. Way to go, Jennie!Jane Seymour also had a great tango. Loved the wig! Very Bond girl! The death of her mother may have her down, but she is not out. She'll be in the competition for the long haul! Did anyone else think Carrie Ann poured the cheese on a little too thick? It was nice that she was moved by Jane's dance, but I couldn't help but wonder if she was going to break out and cry!So who had a bad tango? Cameron Mathison did! It was not his technique, but I thought they spoofed the tango. How dare they mock the mother of all ballroom dances!? They took the passion out of it and made it quirky, which I did not care for at all. The technique was there,... read more

The Ballroom: No Place for the Pretty?

It's ok, Albert! You look great! Albert Reed, Anna Trebunskaya by Carol Kaelson/ABC

Episode Recap: "Eviction 2"Before I say anything else, I want to send my thoughts and prayers to Jane Seymour, whose mother passed away. Jane — I'm so sorry! I'm glad you'll be coming back and I hope you can find some peace in such a dark time.In case you didn't gather this from my paragraph above, I operate under the assumption that the stars of DWTS read this blog religiously. Don't believe me? Did you check out Marie Osmond's hair tonight? It looked better than last night and I did mention in my recap what a faux pas it was! Ah, the power of my blog! It is changing the course of the show! P.S. I'm so kidding. Now onto the results!I'm a bit shocked about the bottom two! I've made it clear I'm no fan of Albert Reed, but I thought he still had a few weeks left in him. Sorry Albert, it's back to the runway for you! Again, who is voting for Wayne Newton? Stop! Mark Cuban dodged a big bullet tonight and, as much as I hate to say it, so did Floyd Mayweather. Albert's performances ... read more
