Marie Osmond Is Looking for America's Favorite Mom

Marie Osmond, America's Favorite Mom

"You think of Donny and Marie and Mother's Day and it's like saccharine sweet," says Marie Osmond, describing her initial hesitation over hosting America's Favorite Mom (Sunday at 7 pm/ET, NBC). But she quickly changed her mind for the chance to honor stand-out moms in five categories (single moms, working moms, stay-at-home moms, unconventional moms and military moms) — one of whom will be crowned "America's Favorite" and win $250,000 in cash. Some might say Osmond deserves her own award after the year she had in 2007. We spoke with the twice-divorced, single mom of eight kids about her ups and downs. TVGuide.com: What's a perfect Mother's Day for you? Osmond: I love a nice quiet day with my children. TVGuide.com: We hear you are working on a syndicated talk show for 2009. More than 30 years since the pair starred in the Donny & Marie variety show together, the brother-sister duo Donny Osmond and Marie Osmond will be performing in a new Las Vegas show starting in September. The pair will perform a 90-minute extravaganza for 26 weeks at the Flamingo hotel-casino, beginning Sept. 9. The show promises to be a "greatest-hits multimedia spectacle," says the AP, and will feature a custom-built stage, video screens and a cast of dancers. For Donny and Marie, the new show should be something of a return to their roots. In the 1970s, the sibs and their family performed at what is now the Las Vegas Hilton with Elvis Presley. With tickets starting at $85, would you make a stop at the Flamingo to see them? Is it about time they got a show again, or is it way past prime time for the pair? — Anna DimondUse our Online Video Guide to get ready for Vegas with Donny and Marie.Related:• Donny and Marie to Honor Moms of All Stripes read more

Does your mom need some televised honoring? Do you know one who does? Donny and Marie Osmond will be taking the stage to help celebrate them as cohosts of America's Favorite Mom, a Mother's Day special. While Donny Osmond joked to the AP that he initially thought viewers would need "an insulin shot" to keep them interested if he and his sis were at the helm, he changed his mind when he heard the details: The show will honor moms who viewers nominate and vote on in nontraditional categories. Honors will go to moms who are single, working, stay-at-home, unconventional or in the military. The 15 semifinalists will all be featured on the Today show during the week leading up to Mother's Day, and winning moms will receive a cash prize, as well as the televised honors. The Osmond duo will of course sing a duet during the show — but they won't reveal the song choice until the show airs (Sunday, May 11, on NBC). Nominations, meanwhile, will be accepted through April 25. — Anna Dim... read more

At the Dancing Finish Line

Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough by Carol Kaelson/ABC

I don’t know about you, but I got my wish Tuesday night. Boiled down to three words: Anyone. But. Marie. Seriously folks, if Dancing with the Stars’ trophy had gone to Marie Osmond the underdog — or rather, underdoll, as I like to think of her after Monday’s bizarre freestyle nondance that would have been better suited for the Island of Misfit Toys — I might even have joined the legions of disgruntled fans who tend to declare "I’m never watching again" after each cycle when their favorite doesn’t win.And then, of course, they return the following season, because once hooked on this deliriously entertaining reality contest, few can resist the spectacle of watching B-list celebs put on their dancing shoes with varying degrees of nerve, style and success. New stars tend to emerge from this process, and few have blazed with such effortless charm than the eventual winner, Helio Castroneves, whom I’d bet very few outside of my Indy-500-obsessed fami... read more

And the Winner Is...

Helio Castroneves! Wow I am so happy and relieved right now. In my world of delusions, I like to think I had everything to do with this but I guess my Helio did some fantastic dancing all season and the voters out there recognized him for it. They brought out milk! I learned recently that it's a race car thing — they drink milk when they win a big race. I think it's weird, I mean why not champagne? It was a nice touch tonight, though. I'm just so glad Marie didn't win. Phew! You have no idea what a relief it was to have her out of the way after the first few minutes. But I don't want to dwell on the negative, I promised the Marie fans there would be no hard feelings and I meant it. Nanny Nanny boo boo! We won! Yeah! I am so immature. But in all seriousness, I think Marie was a bit miffed, no? Even last night she seemed to be acting a bit superior. She took any chance she had to sass the judges and didn't seem to think they had anything relevant (or true) to say. I know I've been... read more
