The plot revolves around two recently deceased ghosts, Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) and his wife, Barbara, (Geena Davis), who seek the help of an obnoxious bio-exorcist, Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton), to remove the new owners of their house -- a family of metropolitan yuppies from New York City named Deetz. The Deetz family consists of Charles (Jeffrey Jones), his second wife, Delia (Catherine O'Hara), and his teenage daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder).

A couple of nice homebody ghosts, trying to rid their house of a family of trendsetting human beings, is hell-bent on making their home unlivable -- even for the dead.
EJ confronts Nicole, convinced she’s somehow responsible for the attacks. Nicole denies and claims EJ wants her to be responsible because he blames her for the events that took place with Sydney. The two painfully rehash their past as EJ comes to realize Nicole has her eyes set on Brady. Nicole, meanwhile, meets with Baker and is determined to make sure EJ doesn’t find out she framed Arianna for the muggings. Frustrated Brady cannot find evidence to prove Arianna’s innocence in the attacks. Victor offers to help. He gives Brady a new money clip to replace the one that was stolen during Brady’s attack. He explains this will remind Brady that he’s loved and part of a family. Brady rejects Victor well knowing he’s pleased Arianna is in jail. Victor reveals his love for Brady, who ends up accepting the gift. Later at the Brady Pub, Brady takes it out to pay for coffee. Lamar, one of Baker’s poker players, recognizes it and mentions it to Brady. Meanwhile, Melanie visits Arianna, who tells her she’s done with Brady. Melanie urges her to fight for him, and not let Nicole win. Arianna decides to call him, but changes her mind when EJ arrives. EJ vows to take Nicole down, and tells Arianna he has a plan. Hope studies the divorce papers, and explains to stunned Jennifer that she had asked Bo for a divorce, hadn’t realized he had gone ahead with it. She sees Bo at Alice’s. He apologizes, but Hope doesn’t want to talk about their future or lack of one. She wants to concentrate on Alice. Hope decides not to take her sleeping pills until this ordeal is over. Meanwhile, Marie Horton shows up at Maggie’s and she, Maggie and Jennifer share a bittersweet reunion as Marie shares her memories of her mother.
