Early stand-up appearances in Minnesota often found Bamford performing with a shaved head and playing a violin while cracking jokes.
While attending Scotland's University of Edinburgh, was part of improvisational-comedy group the Improverts, whose alumni include Ewen MacIntosh (the BBC's The Office) and Kevin McKidd (Rome).
Named to Variety's "10 Comics to Watch" list in 2000.
Received the Barry Award for best performer at the 2004 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Has lent her voice to the Nickelodeon animated series CatDog, as well as feature films Stuart Little 2 (2002) and Barnyard (2006).
