The Following's Valorie Curry: "Emma Is Joe Carroll's Greatest Victim"

[Warning: This story contains major spoilers about Monday's episode of The Following. Read at your own risk!]

R.I.P. Emma Hill.

The protégé, lover and literal partner-in-crime of Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) on The Following met a gruesome end on the penultimate episode of Season 2 Monday, when she was killed by Joe's vengeful ex-wife Claire (Natalie Zea). And according to actress Valorie Curry, those who are wondering if  Emma isn't actually dead shouldn't get their hopes up.

"They really wanted to drive the point home," Curry tells TVGuide.com. "It's so funny, because people are on Twitter like, 'She's just in a coma! Maybe she's alive.' I'm like, she was stabbed, she was thrown out a window, and then staked like a vampire. There's no coming back from impaling."

The Following Prepares for a Killer Comeback in Season 2

Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy are back as television's grisliest odd couple — and we can hardly mask our excitement. "It gets a little more demented," promises executive producer Kevin Williamson of The Following's unsettling second act for Bacon's former FBI agent Ryan Hardy and the erudite literature professor—turned—cult leader Joe Carroll, played with cheeky relish by Purefoy. Just don't expect The Following to hew to the same cops-and-psychos course it ran during its first season. It's still a scare-fest that excels at getting under your skin, but "we're changing the feel and the texture of the show," Williamson says. "We want to make sure that you're not watching the same old thing." (The second season premieres Sunday, Jan. 19 after the NFC Championship game on Fox, then moves to its regular timeslot, Mondays at 9/8c, on Jan. 27.)

Kevin Bacon Takes TV In the New Drama The Following

Fox is bringing home the Bacon.

For his first regular series role since playing troubled teen lush Tim "TJ" Werner on CBS' Guiding Light in 1981, Kevin Bacon is going even darker, and it's a killer fit. Just don't call The Following another police procedural. Even though the ink-black thriller centers on the hunt for a madman's cult of homicidal fans, "I was not interested in playing that procedural formula," says Bacon, 54, looking relaxed and boyishly shaggy in his trailer on the show's Brooklyn set. "That is something I asked about a lot."
