Ali Larter by Chris Haston/NBC; Steven W. Bailey courtesy ABC; Lisa Edelstein by Adam Taylor/Fox
With the long Memorial Day holiday this weekend, let's have some fun and play a game! We've actually played this game before, last October. I had a different blog back then, called "DVD Guy", and I called the game "Today's Stars...Yesterday!" We all had a great deal of fun, and lots of readers chimed in with their own examples of big-name celebs they've seen "in smaller roles, during leaner times".The way to play is very simple: Think of hot "new" stars that you see in any current TV show, and try to think of where you've spotted them on DVDs of older programs. Probably only slightly older shows, but there's absolutely no limit. Let's just have a blast with it! I'll give us several examples, just to get us started: Grey's Anatomy wrapped their fourth season last night, and the younger Dr. Grey wrapped her first full season in the show. Chyler Leigh's straight-laced turn as "Lexi" might not make her recognizable, though, to the few of us who saw her as punk-rockin', spike-m...

Marcia Cross and Dana Delany by Dale Wilcox/ WireImage.com
What it would take for Desperate Housewives Bree and Katherine to lovingly embrace remains a mystery, but when it comes to actresses Marcia Cross and Dana Delany, all they needed for a big hug was some great comedy, delicious food and a good cause. "She's such a great friend," Delany told TV Guide at the Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine event in Beverly Hills that raised funds for the Scleroderma Research Foundation. Delany, who has been a board member for the foundation for almost ten years, didn't just get her castmates Cross and James Denton to attend the event, she also helped set up two set visits to Desperate Housewives along with scripts, lunches and makeovers, that sold for $18,000 each. And for those of us with slimmer wallets, creator Marc Cherry offered some exclusive scoop about the finale. "We're going to find out the truth about what happened in Katherine's house 12 years ago and what the deal is with her daughter and it's going to be a shocking conclusion that all the women wi...

It's Aliiive! Dr. Mayfair delivered Danielle's baby during the neighborhood Halloween bash. Nathan Fillion by Ron Tom/ABC
Episode Recap: "Now I Know, Don't Be Scared"Everyone has moments of sensitivity, regardless of how mischievous and manipulative they may be. As hilarious and mean (but perfect) as Danielle's imitation of her mother was in appearance, cadence and affinity for coasters and "our lord" I was happy to see sweet moments between mother and daughter. Bree was cognizant of the strong maternal emotions Danielle experienced and gave her the chance to hold her newborn, and to change her mind. Danielle too put aside the bitterness toward her mother and knew (for now) that her baby boy would be in better hands with the Hodges. Great acting by both Joy Lauren and Marcia Cross and the writers deserve credit for a great balance of comedy and drama what with Danielle's dressing like her mother, her water breaking at the Halloween party on Bob's rug, a (super speedy) delivery overseen by Frankenstein, and giving Lynette's kids a real Halloween fright. I much prefer the mother/daug...

Question: What you think of the new season of Desperate Housewives? So far it's been an enjoyable surprise to me. It may not be (and probably won't ever be) as solid as the first season, but I have found it much more enjoyable than Grey's Anatomy lately, especially any scenes between Marcia Cross and Dana Delany. Also, I recently started watching Friday Night Lights, and I've read about all the disdain for the Tyra-Landry storyline. Personally, it has been my favorite storyline so far. Adrienne Palicki and Jesse Plemons are terrific, especially in the last scene of the second episode. Do you really think the murder subplot takes away from the show?
Answer: On Desperate Housewives: I wholeheartedly agree. Dana Delany is the best thing to happen to Wisteria Lane in quite a while, and her simmering rivalry with Marcia Cross' Bree is great fun. The show itself has generally become a lot more watchable (though still uneven), and I'm actually finding myself looking forward to it most Sundays.

Question: I have enjoyed your take on the nightly TV offerings and agree for the most part. I wondered what you thought about the return of ABC's Sunday night, particularly Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters. I really thought DH was back in good form with some great twists and an intriguing new family. It is nice to have Marcia Cross back full-time and keeping Kyle MacLachlan around as her husband was a smart move. I really enjoyed B&S more, though. Sally Field showed exactly why she won that Emmy. Her range of comedy to drama was outstanding. What a great matriarch to build this show around. I thought the episode was a little busy with all the plot points, but what a great season it set up. I am really looking forward to what the Walkers have in store for us.
Answer: Can't argue with anything here. I enjoyed both season premieres quite a bit, and like most of last season, I found Brothers & Sisters ultimately more satisfying than Housewives, though that episode had quite a bit

9:20: Steve Carell just threw to a clip package that makes his costars all seem jealous of him. Cool of Fox or maybe just smart to let them do their thing even though The Office is on another network.9:23: "What a great show... this part of the audience has seen," Best Comedy, Music or Variety Show winner Jon Stewart says, poking fun at the Emmys-in-the-round conceit. You just know they've got poor Mitovich stuck behind the stage. Hopefully he's at the bar getting scoop from Vanessa Williams instead. He's enterprising that way.9:25: Tony Bennett's special won best music... er, special. Oh, gee. Now the producer is kissing up to him right on stage for the world to see. Wait, the guy just called Tony "Dad." In that case, it's sweet. If they aren't actually related, it's just creepy.9:27: Mark Harmon and Marcia Cross hot coupla presenters. And Marcia's totally got the girls out. Let's hear it for breast-feeding. 9:28: Oh, Toni Collette is nominated. And just like t...
