Exclusive: DC Entertainment Launches New Arrow and The Flash Digital Comics

The CW's Arrow and its spinoff The Flash won't premiere until October, but DC Entertainment is giving fans some comic relief while they wait. The Arrow digital comic series, which has been on hiatus since last year, is set to return with an all-new chapter in the life of Oliver Queen, while The Flash: Season Zero will bring us up to speed on the life of Barry Allen, a.k.a. the Fastest Man Alive. Both books are being written by the series' showrunners, guaranteeing the stories are in sync with what we see on TV.

Although there are a number of possibilities (3XK comes to mind, for example), it sounds like at least one person isn't involved: the recently arrested Sen. William Bracken. "I think that aspect of the mythology is closed now," creator Andrew W. Marlowe says. "Beckett knows who killed her mother. If there's further storytelling there, I think we're going to be breaking new ground." And for those fans miffed that we didn't get to see Castle and Beckett's wedding, look on the bright side: The show will have a fresh budget to work with in Season 7! It's official: Marc Guggenheim deserves a vacation. In the past few years, he's not only been executive producing and writing The CW's Arrow, he's also been penning screenplays (Green Lantern, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and Perry Mason for Robert Downey Jr.), and agreeing to take over the X-Men comic at Marvel. As if Arrow wasn't flying high enough already, the superhero hit is aiming for new heights with this week's episode, inspired by the popular DC Comics title Birds of Prey (which was also the basis for a short-lived 2002-03 WB series).
