Keeping the Beat to Race Relations in DC

Is it called Malcolm X Park or Meridian Hill Park? Who can lay claim to an historic neighborhood - the people who live there, or the people whom they displaced? In Washington, DC, these questions form part of a history of tenuous race relations. As a new First Family enters the White House, does the nation's capital remain a segregated city?
Every Sunday afternoon when the weather is warm, people of all colors gather for an African drum circle. Inside the circle, the musicians are joined by dancers, while around its edges people read books, perform circus routines and gather to watch the spectacle. The event has taken place every summer since the 1960s - many claim its origins in the race riots of '68 - even as the crowd and city have changed around it. What does the drum circle reveal about the complicated story of race relations in Washington DC?

On May 24th, 2008, on Crazy Dee's Birthday, Crazy Dee took a day from the store to chronicle a side of Cleveland seldom seen. This is the record of that day Pt. 2. In the May 22nd, 2008 issue of the CP2 Magazine Felicia C. Haney had written an interesting article about Abdullah H. Razzaq. Abdullah H. Razzaq was Malcolm X's close aide and chief secretary in the last days. The article told of an event taking place on Crazy Dee's Birthday (on May 24th, 2008), and Crazy Dee decide this event would be the second part of his birthday gift to himself. 'Malcolm X: The Unknown Facts' took place at Cuyahoga Community College on the Metro Campus. Speakers included Mukhtar Shaheed, Basheer Jones, El Hajj Imam Talib (the spiritual leader of The Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood in Harlem, NY)and Keynote Speaker Adbullah H. Razzaq. Crazy Dee did not tape all of the event due to some restrictions, but he did have the opportunity to tape the question and answer period, and he was granted an exclusive backstage interview with Abdullah H. Razzaq. If you want to know more about Malcolm X, this clip is for you. Special Thanks to Felicia C. Haney for keeping Cleveland up on events happening around the city via the CP2, and Special Thanks to Mr. Moore for hooking up the interview! Enjoy the clip!!
