Comedian Bill Maher will apologize tonight for calling Pope Benedict XVI "a Nazi" and Catholicism a "child-abusing religious cult" on last week's episode of Real Time with Bill Maher (Friday at 11 pm/ET, HBO).He'll apologize specifically to the Catholic League, which took issue with his statements and demanded the apology. The group received a phone call from an HBO executive on Thursday advising them that Maher will apologize tonight. — J.R. Whalen

And some people worried that getting Ryan Seacrest to host this year’s Emmy telecast was going to be the producers’ worst idea. That’s before we got a look at the set, an unwieldy and unappealing theater-in-the-round setup that looked more suitable for the new American Gladiators revival than for an awards show. The nominees, half of whom saw only the backs of the various presenters and performers, had a deer-in-the-headlights look every time Seacrest approached them or the cameras awkwardly cut to them. They appeared to be sitting in penalty boxes, not deluxe auditorium seats.Honestly, though, we poor schnooks at home were the ones suffering the penalty here: as in, confronted with one of the worst Emmy telecasts I can remember. The Peacock has bought the rights to Sin Tetas No Hay Paraiso (Without Breasts There Is No Paradise), a Colombian telenovela that will be developed as a prime-time project for NBC while sister network Telemundo produces a Spanish-language version. According to Variety, Sin Tetas focuses on a young prostitute determined to enhance her bosom as a means to escape poverty.... Fox Reality has given a green light to The Search for the Next Elvira. The casting call takes place July 13 at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. Hey, where did our Raven Snook just run off to?!....
