Magical Mystery Tour—conceived and directed by The Beatles themselves—is a surreal take on the British tradition of a coach trip to the seaside, featuring the band members along with an eccentric cast of characters. The film was originally broadcast in the UK in 1967. While the music, featuring classic tracks like “Magical Mystery Tour,” “The Fool on the Hill,” and “I Am the Walrus,” was rapturously received, the movie was poorly reviewed by TV critics who expected something lighter and more in the style of of A Hard Day’s Night. As a result, the film never aired in the US and was not widely distributed. But now, 45 years on, the rarely seen classic film has been fully restored and is being presented in its original glory for the first time.
A notorious womanizer, fashion editor Michael James (Peter O'Toole) decides to seek the help of a psychiatrist. Desperate to remain faithful to his fiancée Carole (Romy Schneider), Michael enlists the help of Dr. Fassbinder (Peter Sellers), blissfully unaware that as Dr. Fassbinder is making the moves on a patient who secretly longs for the seemingly irresistible Michael. As Michael and Carole check into the Chateau Chantelle in hopes of patching up their relationship, Dr. Fassbinder has also arrived at the Chateau in hopes of finally cementing his relationship with the comely patient. As the two couples check into the hotel, disaster looms just beyond the bend in a series of hilarious mishaps that will test both Michael's faithfulness and Dr. Fassbinder's sanity.
What's New Pussycat?. Peter Sellers, Peter O'Toole and Woody Allen (in his screenwriting and film acting debut) star in this wacky chapter from the swinging '60s where therapy becomes hilarity.
