Stalker: Run, Don't Walk (All the Way to Nashville)

Dylan McDermott, Maggie Q

TV really doesn't get much uglier or more cynical than CBS's Stalker (Wednesday, 10/9c), a crass and calculated attempt to keep the Criminal Minds crowd appeased for yet another hour of tacky, icky violence — disproportionately perpetrated against unfortunate women — presented within a glum, indifferently acted formula.

Kevin Williamson Defends Stalker's Violence: "I Enjoy Scaring People"

Maggie Q, Dylan McDermott

Kevin Williamson is no stranger to defending his work. At the Television Critics Association tour this summer, the creator of The Following and CBS' new thriller Stalker raised eyebrows by encouraging a critic to just "change the channel" if he didn't like what he was seeing on screen. ("I think some people are still kind of raw over The Following," Williamson admitted to TVGuide.com after the panel. "They're fair questions.")

And there's no question that Stalker won't be for everybody. Accusations of excess violence and even misogyny have been leveled at Williamson based on the pilot, whose opening sequence shows a woman screaming as she getting burned alive in her car. But he insists that Stalker is not as violent as The Following, and appeals to a different sense of fear.

CBS' Stalker From Kevin Williamson Is Not Another Following

Dylan McDermott, Maggie Q

Between Scream's violent murders, The Vampire Diaries' blood-lusting vampires and The Following's serial killers, Kevin Williamson has become synonymous with horrifying tales that will most likely end in tragedy. Although his new CBS drama Stalker goes down a similarly dark route in the show's pilot, the executive producer promises this is a very different show from his past work, in particular the bloody and often gruesome Following.

"In my mind, it's apples and oranges," Williamson told reporters at the Television Critics Association's fall previews on Thursday. "'We have... read more

On the Set: Nikita Goes Out With a Bang

Nikita

Never let it be said that Nikita wouldn't hurt a fly. The cast and crew are shooting the action drama's final fight scene — between Nikita (Maggie Q) and best frenemy Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca) — in a country estate outside Toronto. During a particularly intense take, a housefly alights atop a loaf of bread on the kitchen set. Prop guns are drawn, blanks are fired and blammo — a special-effects squib detonates inside the insect's meal, blowing dinner and diner to pieces. "Did you see that?" asks coexecutive producer Albert Kim, smacking his forehead while watching a replay over Maggie Q's shoulder. "Our effects crew always wants to blow up bread."

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
"How much I cry! The last time I cried that hard was The Land Before Time! I was at a party with my lawyer at the Toronto Film Festival. Before we went out to this party, she had done all her makeup and looked pretty. We were sitting there, and I was like, "Oh my God! Extreme Makeover! Let's just watch the last half-hour," which is the worst half-hour, the worst of the best. At the end of that half-hour, we were a mess, and she looked at me, like, "Thanks, Maggie! Now we're going to go out all puffy in the face!" "
