Spike TV's critically-acclaimed animé series, Afro Samurai, will be returning with all its sword-wielding action in an original movie event — Afro Samurai: Resurrection. Samuel L. Jackson will be reprising his starring role as Afro (and playing executive producer), and the movie will also feature special guest star Lucy Liu as the voice of Sio, the seductive yet sadistic brains behind the plot to put an end to Afro Samurai. Based on the art and story of manga artist Takashi Okazaki, Afro Samurai tells the tale of Afro, his sidekick Ninja Ninja, and their quest to seek vengeance for his father's murder. The movie isn't set to premiere on Spike until January 2009, but Afro fans can get a sneak peek of the trailer on the network's website Thursday at 8:15 pm/ET. Gina DiNunno

Cashmere Mafia may have bit the dust, but ABC really wanted to keep Lucy Liu in the family. So at Thursday's Dirty Sexy Money panel at the fall TV press tour, after months of rumblings, it was officially announced that Liu is joining the ever-growing cast of the Darling family drama.Though details about her character, Nola Lyons, are scant few (we know she'll play an attorney that tangles with Peter Krause's Nick George), Liu will be a series regular. The actress confessed to being a fan of the show since seeing the pilot episode. "It was kismet; it just worked out," Liu said, who sat next to Krause on the panel and exchanged cute little whispers and giggles with him throughout the session. "I feel like we've been caught passing notes," she said.In a session that included many mentions of the words dirty, sexy, and money, Liu was asked how it felt to turn 40 this year and still be considered sexy. Without missing a beat, she quipped: "Oh, great, now I'm fired." — Mickey O'Connor

Jeers to Bonnie Somerville for being the weak link in ABC's new Cashmere Mafia. Lucy Liu's got star power, and foreign imports Frances O'Connor and Mirando Otto can actually, you know, act. With her steamroller line readings and lack of charisma, bland bombshell Somerville (who's never made much of an impression, despite roles on Friends and NYPD Blue) can't even make her same-sex subplot interesting. She's the Fredo of this Mafia. Read and react to Bruce's opinions on American Idol's new season, CSI: Miami's Elizabeth Berkley and more! Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board. We may feature your Cheer or Jeer on TVGuide.com or in TV Guide magazine!
