Bulldog Drummond’s Peril (1938) stars John Howard as adventurer Hugh “Bulldog” Drummond and John Barrymore as his friend Col. Nielson of Scotland Yard. As Drummond and his fiancee Phyllis are about to tie the knot, when the theft of one of their wedding gifts -- a synthetic diamond, no less -- reveals the existence of a gang of international gem speculators who are willing to kill to control their market. The presence of character actors Reginald Denny, Porter Hall, Elizabeth Patterson (I Love Lucy), and Zeffie Tilbury add extra entertainment value to this fast-paced action thriller.

Bulldog Drummond’s Revenge (1937) returns John Howard to the role of adventurer Hugh “Bulldog” Drummond, and John Barrymore back as his friend Col. Nielson of Scotland Yard. Drummond gets wind of a deadly and highly unstable new explosive, and an industrialist who is trying to gain control of it for his own nefarious ends. Character players E. E. Clive and Reginald Denny fill out the core cast, with Frank Puglia (The Jungle Book) as the principal villain.

Bulldog Drummond Comes Back (1937) introduces John Howard in the role of Capt. (ret.) Hugh “Bulldog” Drummond, army officer turned adventurer -- and John Barrymore as Col. Nielson, Drummond’s friendly if skeptical ally at Scotland Yard. This time out the race against time mounts up, as Drummond’s fiancee Phyllis is kidnapped by an old enemy, who is planning something grisly for the both of them (in a death-trapped room and a series of challenges and clues that would tax James Bond). And on top of Barrymore, one gets a cast that includes perennial villain/master of a thousand faces J. Carroll Naish and character actors E. E. Clive, and Reginald Denny.
