Ochoa and Sorenstam In Striking Position at LPGA Championship

The Golf Channel's coverage of the final round of the LPGA McDonald's Championship — the second women's major of the year — begins at 4 pm/ET. It looks like it could be a clash of the titans, with the player of the moment, Lorena Ochoa, and the legendary Annika Sorenstam tied for third, just two shots off the lead at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland.Ochoa is bidding for second major of 2008. She's already won six tournaments this year. Sorenstam, who recently announced that she will retire at the end of the season, is looking for her 11th career major.Ochoa tees off at 1:15 pm/ET, five minutes before Sorenstam. They are both at 10 under, and chasing Jee Young Lee, who is at -12, and Maria Hjorth, at -11. read more

Lorena Ochoa Making a Major Impact on the LPGA

As the LPGA's second major of the year begins today, Lorena Ochoa is looking to continue her Tigeresque run. The 26-year-old Mexican has already won the season's first Major, April's Kraft Nabisco Championship, and will look to add the McDonald's LPGA Championship to her resume. She has won a staggering six of nine starts this year, and earlier this spring tallied enough points to qualify for the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame. Despite her current success and acknowledged talent, Ochoa struggled early as a professional. “She very probably could have — and should have — won the U.S. Open in 2005, but she made 8 at the last hole,” says ABC/ESPN golf analyst Judy Rankin. “That’s what has seasoned her. She’s learned how to win through the experience of losing.” Rankin says the passion Ochoa shows on the course appeals to fans. “She’s more of a natural player in this day and age when everybody is a bit more robotic.
