In Africa, a hunter kills a great lion that turns out to be sacred to a local tribe of voodoo worshipers. The witch doctor places a curse on him, and the hunter's life, marriage, health and sanity begin to deteriorate.
The picture is set in North Africa and is partially narrated by an American radio man who keeps the story moving. When the Germans retake the "pub" (in which so much of the action takes place) they find, after interrogating the staff, that the daughter of the house is called Lilli Marlene.
