As a gunman holds Natalie hostage in the police station, the incident sparks Nick's memory taking him back to Berlin in 1966 and an East German family he helped escape to the west. Though arousing the suspicions of library custodian Toffler, his son Bernard and daughter Lily, Nick shows them an underground route to West Berlin and promises to lead them out after they help find an old Sanskrit text containing a cure for his vampirism. Yet, intent on keeping the book from being found, Lacroix reveals their escape plan to the secret police, resulting in Bernard's arrest and torture. Accused of working with the secret police, Nick manages to convince Toffler and Lisa that he had nothing to do with Bernard's arrest, Nick leads them out of the library just ahead of the police and later returns to rescue Bernard. watch
