Grammys: Coldplay, Lil Wayne, Lead Nominations; Jonas Brothers Among Best New Artists

Finding a distinctly new nominations rhythm, the Grammys announced this year's nominees in an all-star concert countdown Wednesday, hosted by LL Cool J and Taylor Swift. The unlikely emcee matchup set the tone for many of the categories' diverse nominees, starting with Lil Wayne and Coldplay topping this year's nominations count with eight and seven nods, respectively.

Going head-to-head for top album of the year are Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III, Coldplay's Viva La Vida (both of which were top selling LPs in 2008) and Radiohead's In Rainbows. Joining them are Ne-Yo's Year of the Gentleman and Robert Plant's Raising Sand, on which he collaborated with bluegrass crooner Alison Krauss.

Krauss and Plant also overlap with the nominations for best record of the year, along with Adele, Coldplay, Leona "Bleeding Love" Lewis and M.I.A.

The Summer Olympics' outstandingly golden boy, swimmer Michael Phelps, will dive into not-ready-for-primetime television as the guest host of Saturday Night Live's 34th season premiere, TVGuide.com has learned.Airing Sept. 13, the sketch show's season opener will "reunite" Phelps with musical guest Lil Wayne, the source of the gold-medalist's pre-swim warm-up tunes.Phelps, of course, won a record eight gold medals at the Summer Olympics held earlier this month in Beijing. Hopefully, we'll get a sketch poking fun at China's pre-teen female gymnasts.
