What You Need to Know About American Horror Story's Witchy New Season Coven

Another year, another version of American Horror Story. This season, Ryan Murphy transplants viewers to New Orleans in Coven.

The anthology series' third chapter is set in present-day New Orleans, where young witches coming of age learn their craft at Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. The school's headmistress Cordelia (Sarah Paulson), however, has a different opinion about teaching than her mother Fiona (Jessica Lange), the Supreme witch of their coven. In the premiere, Fiona returns from Los Angeles — where she's...read more

Tuesday Playlist: Raising Hope Wedding, Damon's Kimmel Replay, NCIS Flashback

We knew it wouldn't be all grins and giggles when three networks decided to stake out comedy ground on Tuesdays this season, cannibalizing the audience with too much of a quirky thing. Sure enough, the laughter ended last week for two of the night's more offbeat sitcoms: Fox's Ben and Kate and ABC's Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23, both abruptly if not unexpectedly yanked from the schedule.

If there's an upside, it's that we get more to love, at least for now, of Fox's underappreciated Raising Hope (8/7), now airing back-to-back episodes off and on for several weeks. read more

May 30, 2007: "Startin' Over's a Bitch, Ain't It?"

Nobody likes a stalker.OK, where are my fellow teen-drama fans? The O.C.'s gone, One Tree Hill's fourth season is coming to a close, and The Hills — although technically not a drama, but has enough in it to fall into the category — is on hiatus. Hello, I need my mindless, love-torn, unrealistic TV! The CW wasn't about to leave us hanging, though. I've got to admit, the opening of this show surprised me and yet it didn't at the same time. "Life shouldn't be so expected." Well, I didn't expect Johnny's (Taylor Handley) father to shoot himself just then, but again, how can I be that shocked, right? "C'mon, Dad, I love drunk time, but I really need to finish this." Just with that line alone, Johnny's former structured self became just a cover for someone whose parent was so out of control, the only thing that made sense was numbers. Definite answers. One year later, camera in hand, hair as messy as a wannabe rock star's (or Jesse McCartney's possible twin brother?), Johnny's i... read more

Who cares about the Lost snub ...

Question: Who cares about the Lost snub and Ellen Burstyn? The Emmys got a big one right this year: Leslie Jordan has made me howl in everything he's done, from Murphy Brown to Dharma & Greg. Kudos to the Academy for awarding him for his guest role on Will & Grace. To me, this makes up for nominating Kevin James. Answer: To me, Kevin James' clowning falls under the same heading as Leslie Jordan's broad and often very funny shtick. Be that as it may, I have no gripe with Jordan winning the guest-performer Emmy. The only one of those guest-actor wins that made my jaw drop was Christian Clemenson (a fine actor in an over-the-top role) beating Michael J. Fox for Boston Legal ... read more
