How happy am I not to be preparing a eulogy for Fringe this weekend, instead celebrating another audacious year of emotionally compelling sci-fi thrills with a grand season, not series, finale (Friday at 9/8c, Fox).

Thank goodness we know that Fringe has been renewed for another season. Otherwise this new preview for the season finale would have us seriously worried.
VIDEO: Will two worlds become one in the Fringe finale?
In the two minute-long, movie-like trailer — a shorter version debuted last week — William Bell (Leonard Nimoy) details his megalomaniacal plan to collapse the two universes in order to create a new one — which looks a lot like a scene from Jurassic Park. Will the Fringe team survive this disaster? Will Olivia (Anna Torv) avoid her fate? And what is the backward voice at the end of the trailer saying? (Some eager tweeters have already guessed "It is impossible.")

Awww, hell no. You do not hurt Astrid. Uh huh. We gon' be in a fight unless y'all fix this fast.
If you missed the first half of Fringe's season finale last Friday night, you missed A) a thrilling hour, and B) a really upsetting twist. While trying to escape a warehouse filled with God knows what, Astrid The Beloved and Walter the Best ran afoul of some gun-toting goons who were actually doing the bidding of bad, bad William Bell, and Agent Farnsworth took what looked like a pretty damn fatal bullet. Yeah, seeing Leonard Nimoy again was a thrill (although his return, set up in the 2036-set "Letters of Transit," was spoiled by the opening credits), but having him back is not worth losing Astrid.

Only one world will survive in the Fringe season finale.
In the two-hour episode, airing on May 11, David Robert Jones (Jared Harris) will try to destroy the two universes to create a new one that he'll control. And from the looks of it in the trailer below, William Bell (Leonard Nimoy) is alive and helping him.

The question of whether Peter does indeed need to find his way home — or, as some theories have suggested, he's already there — will finally be answered in this week's episode of Fringe.
With eight episodes remaining before the season finale — and hopefully not the series finale — what will Peter's journey now look like? TVGuide.com turned to executive producer Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman to get the scoop. Plus: The "X" man returns!
