Bittersweet -- Caring For The World Films is pleased to premiere Jan Kohler's first photo essay 'Bitter Sweet'.
In 2008, fifteen year old Honduran high school student,Jan Kohler, volunteered as a translator for the humanitarian organization Cape CARES in the rural village of San Marcos.During his spare time, he took many photographs of the local people.
Impressed with his natural eye for photography, Caring For The World Films director, Debi Lang chose his photograph, entitled 'Pensive Minds' for the DVD cover of the 2009 award-winning documentary 'Return To San Marcos'. Another untitled photograph was selected for the haunting DVD cover of Behind The Lines in Los Encinitos released in the fall of 2010.
Inspired by his experience, he returned to San Marcos in 2009 on assignment with Caring For The World Films. In addition to his translation duties for Cape CARES, Jan's mission was to capture the spirit and hope of the village through its children. He produced a photo essay entitle 'Bitter Sweet' to profile the strength and vulnerability of the children of San Marcos who have forever captured his heart. He is humbled that his photographs have moved others and is grateful to have connected with the people of San Marcos. Jan hopes his photography will inspire others, especially young people to pursue humanitarian efforts in their own communities and around the world.
